Sergeant-Major (Retd) George MacDonell was one of the brave Canadians who fought in the Defence of Hong Kong during the .

When the Allies were forced to surrender on December 25, 1941, he spent more than three-and-a-half years in harsh Japanese prisoner of war camps.

After the war ended, he was finally reunited with his family, who were shocked to learn that he had survived.
Sadly, he passed away earlier this year, on April 15. We will never forget you, Sergeant-Major MacDonell.
