The purpose of this vlog is to provide a step-by-step guide on how to become a nurse in Canada (from NNAS to the regulatory body [CNO]).

I am an IEN from the Philippines. I went through the rigorous and expensive process towards becoming a REGISTERED NURSE here in Canada. Along the way, I met a lot of people who helped and inspired me not to lose hope to my CANADIAN RN DREAM.

Ito yung kadalasang tinatanong sa amin. Bilang isang OFW, hindi madali ang manirahan sa ibang bansa. Mamimis at mamimis mo ang mga bagay na kinasanayan mo na.

As a Pinoy in Canada na-eenjoy natin kung paano mamuhay sa isang first-world country at dahil dito napaka-thankfu ko. Magandang healthcare services, social services, low crime rate at malaki ang sahod. Ilan lang ito sa mga benefits dito sa Canada.

At gaya ng parati naming sinasabi, may mga CONS din naman. Tulad ng mahal ang properties, taxes at iba pa.

IN SEARCH OF GREENER PASTURES

As OFWs, we seize opportunities abroad to follow our dreams and for our families to live brighter futures. I know this for a fact because this is what drives me to come to Canada. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

Canada, US, UK, UAE, Australia, and New Zealand are among the top destinations for FILIPINO NURSES. I believe it is safe to say that the quality of life in these countries is the BEST 🏆. Like anywhere else around the globe, I’m sure there are PROS and CONS too. If a KABABAYAN asks if I will suggest coming to Canada, I WOULD. In fact, I would suggest they explore the world.

Filipino nurses are applauded worldwide because we put our hearts and soul into whatever we do. Our commitment and dedication to our profession and patients separate us from others. Generally, FILIPINOS 🇵🇭 are known to be hardworking and who are always willing to go above and beyond. This is our edge, and with this, limitless opportunities await us. 👌👌👌

As not to sugarcoat, living in Canada was never easy. For my first few months here, I had to take caregiving, serving and cleaning jobs. I am lucky that I have my family with me and we support each other. Some people work double or even triple jobs in order to meet ends while supporting their loved ones back home. This is the truth of immigrant life. Sabi nga nila “tibay ng loob at sikmura ang kinakailangan.”

On the bright side, the healthcare system here is the best. You have coverage for your hospital and diagnostic bills. Exceptional social services is available for eligible families. More importantly, pay is good. 💸💸💸

Another struggle is papaano mo makukuha yung nursing license mo. If you want to practice nursing, you have to prepare yourself for the long and rigorous process. Not to mention the not-so-cheap fees. Dito sa Canada if they find that your education is not comparable to Canadian standards, kailangan mong mag-aral ulit or prove to them your skills by undergoing a series of practical and written exams.

In 2020, I received my hard-earned nursing license. Since then, I started to work in my dream job, earn more and save for the days to come.

I take pride in my humble journey. Never did I imagine that I'm capable of enduring the hardships I went through, especially in a foreign country. As cliche as it may sound, ALL OUR HARDWORK WILL EVENTUALLY PAY OFF. With FAITH and PERSEVERANCE, we can all achieve our dreams in life. 💪🏼

I was once inspired by someone else's story. Their insights and words of encouragement helped me achieve my Canadian dream. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 Now, it is my time to tell my story and inspire others.

I always thought of the African Safari the go to place where you can have a thrilling adventure with the wild. Living in Canada 🇨🇦 I’m glad I don’t have to travel far. Located in Hamilton, Ontario you can find Canada’s Original Safari Adventure - the AFRICAN LION SAFARI. It is packed with fun and adventurous attractions and activities that is suited for everyone.

I mostly enjoyed the Game Reserves where I had a close encounter with wild animals from around the world. I think most kids will enjoy the Misumu Bay Wetplay for its “Wet and Wild” water activities.

This is a BEST PLACE to spend your day with your family and friends. Kids can definitely learn a lot in a very enjoyable and interactive environment.

HEALTHY BUT NOT EXPENSIVE

This is my principle when I prepare and offer food to my baby. I always use ingredients that are readily available in the kitchen or what is inside our fridge. For me, baby's food should not be fancy 💸💎. As long as they are healthy and you put your ❤️ preparing them, then, that's all that counts! 👌🏼

Life is never the same with the addition of our precious little one. She gives us strength to rise every morning and inspires us to push our limits.

We're glad that we overcome the hardships and the lengthly process of attaining our Canadian nursing license. Although not required, we enrolled to some continuing education courses to update ourselves on the Canadian healthcare system.

As I've said in my previous vlogs, life in Canada is not easy but opportunities here are limitless especially to a Pinoy Nurse.
