Wrestle Mania 💪🏻💪🏽💪🏿

It has been nearly 8 years since BT has had a wrestling team -- not since Coach Skuse competed as a young Titan himself. It was evident that students were eager to learn and test their skills as they flocked to the sign up sheet and quickly filled spots 🤼‍♂️

Last Friday, the BT wrestling team took to the STM mats for their second competition this year. The team cracked the top 10 out of 22 teams and had some very impressive matches 🤼‍♀️

Sophia Regts and Miguel Brum won gold in their divisions. Colin Colarusso and John Pucci won bronze in their divisions. And Omar Saedi, Matteo De Pasquel, and Raph Estrata placed 4th 💪🏿💪🏽💪🏻

Way to go, Titans! Awesome to see the resurgence of this Titan-Sized sport 🤼‍♂️🤼‍♀️

Where Are You Christmas? 🎄

Last night, an incredibly talented group of Titans performed a one-of-a-kind Christmas show in front of a packed audience here at BT 🎄

This original production was written by members of the Bishop Tonnos Performing Arts Society (PAS) and showcased the amazing works of singers, actors, BT Band, and choir 🎄

'Where Are You Christmas' follows the journey of two elves, Buddy (Joshua Wong) and Snowflake (Michela Fricano) as they try to help Chris (Adam Stevenson), a teenage boy who has lost his Christmas Spirit, find it once again 🎄

A heartfelt story filled with music, laughter, and your favourite Christmas songs, brought together the magic and creativity of our Arts students. Special thanks to Mr. Leroux, Mrs. Belshaw, Mr. Barnard, the cast and crew, and everyone who supported and brought their Holiday Spirit in attendance 🎄

Special Olympics 🏀

Today in the Titans gym, the Special Olympics basketball tournament was held 🏀

We welcomed special guests, Chief of Police, Frank Bergen and Hamilton Police mascot, Coppy to lead us in our opening ceremonies and ceremonial tip-off 🏀

Special Olympian and grade 12 student, Jack Wiseman, began the event with the oath of the Special Olympics: "Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt" 🏀

Thank you to all the staff and students from our participating teams: CHS, STM, SJHN, and Sir Winston Churchill. Mrs. Siena, Ms. Barbati, and Ms. Howell for organizing the event. The EAs, athletic council, staff, parents, and volunteers for all their time and dedication 🏀

What a wonderful day of smiles, sportsmanship, and so much fun 🏀

Farewell Fall 🍂

We bid Adieu to our Autumn sports and Welcome those of Winter. Field Hockey, Boys Volleyball, Baseball, Girls Basketball, Golf, Cross Country, and Football. What a successful season! 🍂

Winter sports have now begun with Boys Basketball, Girls Volleyball, Swimming, Wrestling, and Ice Hockey. We can't wait to see what's in store next for the Titans ❄️

BT VS BULLYING 💕

As a part of the Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, Titans wore pink today to show support of anti-bullying and inclusivity initiatives 💕

Swing by the Student Council office on lunches for "cups of kindness" (free hot cocoa), look for motivational messages throughout the halls, and stay tuned for daily topics and activities related to bullying prevention and awareness from our Health Action Team 💕

Last week, the Grade 10 Science classes travelled to Toronto to explore the Aquatic Life at Ripley's Aquarium 🐟

Students were split into groups where they engaged in experiential learning of Fish Anatomy by dissecting a mackerel 🐟

Straight A's 🌟

Yesterday was a day of honour as we recognized the amazing ACADEMIC achievements of our most astute Titans 🌟

The top 10 students from each grade with overall averages as high as 98% (99.1% was tops!) gathered together, with their proud families in attendance, to receive their Honour Awards from the 2022-23 school year 🌟

The Director's Awards of Excellence were also distributed to students by Dave Hansen, HWCDSB Director of Education. Recipients of this award demonstrate outstanding achievents academically and in their community 🌟

Thank you, Prefect Council, guidance department, SHSM, administration, teachers, and staff for organizing the celebration. Most importantly, thank you, parents, for your unwavering support and love of these fine scholars 🌟

Bravo, BT! We're so proud of your Titan-Sized accomplishments and all the hard work and dedication you put forth in your studies 🌟

STEM-tacular! 🤩⚙️

Earlier this school year, Mr. White, a teacher in BT's math department for nearly 20 years, earned the prestigious Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence in STEM - Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics 🤩📉

Today, amongst colleagues, board members, administration of past and present, and his 1st period calculus students (who were reminded they still have homework!), Mr. White was recognized for the well-deserved award. 🤩📏

Ally Shikase, a 2015 Bishop Tonnos graduate and former student of Mr. White's, attested to the impact her math teacher had on her life and future in becoming a Senior Data Scientist at Bell. 🤩📈

Mr. Taylor, former BT Mathematics Department Head and current VP at Cathedral, also spoke of Mr. White as a 'teacher of students', whom he places utmost importance and care in his teaching -- "His educational pedagogy is rooted in student success...Rene is a reflective practitioner – constantly working on ways to improve his instructional effectiveness to reach all learners, wherever they may be. He encourages students to make mistakes because this is where we learn the most." 🤩📊

Mr. White closed the gathering with thoughtful words of gratitude: "This recognition is not a personal achievement but a testament to the collaborative efforts of an entire educational community that is dedicated to fostering excellence in education. An incredible team of educators, administrators, and most importantly, students. You all made this happen. I will remember today as a very good day." 🤩📐

Congratulations, Mr. White, and thank you for instilling a love of learning and fostering a Titan-Sized confidence in your students 🤩⚙️

Back 2 Back Champs 🏐🏆

Another BT team defended their GOLDEN title tonight as the Junior Boys Volleyball team defeated STM 3-1 in the CHAMPIONSHIP on home court 🏐🏆

This was sweet redemption as the only loss these Titans suffered was against the Knights in a hard-fought away game earlier this season 🏐🏆

The sets were close, and the intensity was palpable in the stands, but our boys were never shook, even in the final match that went into extra points 27-25 leading to a BT victory 🏐🏆

Huge thanks to Mr. McPhee, Mrs. Pauletto, and Mr. Harvey for coaching this group to gold and to the families, friends, and fans for all their support this season 🏐🏆

Awesome game, boys! Congrats on another BT CHAMPIONSHIP 🏐🏆

Back 2 Back Champs 🏀🏆

Last night, our Junior Girls Basketball team remained the defending CHAMPIONS on our home court against Cathedral with a final score of 46-31 🏀🏆

The Titans had an astounding undefeated season to undoubtedly keep the trophy at BT 🏀🏆

Captain Anna Cochrane provided both leadership and scoring in clutch moments for the Titans. Laila Soccio and Olivia Tecu put tough defensive pressure on the Gaels and kept possession by securing some big boards. Centre Alyssa Cerovac and Addison Turkstra dominated in the paint with their outstanding post defense. 🏀🏆

Thanks to coaches Maga and Brenna for their dedication and expertise this season, and to all the family and fans for their support 🏀🏆

Way to go, girls! Solid start to a Championship Week! 🏀🏆

Walk For Wenjack 🧡💜 (2/2)

Last week, BT took steps toward reconciliACTION by walking together for Chanie Wenjack and all children who attended residential schools 🧡💜

Chanie Wenjack, misnamed "Charlie" by his teachers, was an Anishinaabe First Nations boy who ran away from Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential School, where he boarded for three years in Kenora, Ontario, Canada. He died of hunger and exposure at Farlane, Ontario, while trying to walk 600 km back to his home, Ogoki Post on the Marten Falls Reserve 🧡💜

Our welcomed guests: Melissa Button and Amanda Ottolino - HWCDSB Indigenous Lead and Nathan Muir - Indigenous Youth Advisor NYAWEH program led us in a healing smudge and drum ceremony before walking 6 laps around our field to represent the 600km distance Chanie would have to walk to return home 🧡💜

Back 2 Back 🏆⚾️

Our Varsity Boys Baseball team remained undefeated this season as they took home the 1st place trophy for the 2nd year in a row 🏆⚾️

The Titans took a commanding 5-run lead while keeping the Braves scoreless until the 6th inning. As Brebeuf gave their fans hope with 2 runs, BT halted their momentum, kept their cool, and came out victorious against SJB 7-2 🏆⚾️

Thanks to the fans, parents, teachers, and coaches for all their support this season. We'll see you again in the spring for GHAC 🏆⚾️

Try Like Terry 👟

Today our Titans tied up their laces and took to the track for the Terry Fox Foundation 👟

Students' $10 contribution gave them a Terry Fox t-shirt of their choice, as well as a freezie to enjoy on their laps. The best reward, however, is knowing that you helped raise a record-breaking donation from BT this year 👟

We Wear Orange 🧡

Our hallways were filled with orange shirts today to honour residential school survivors, the children who never made it home, and the families who were forever affected 🧡

Phyllis Webstad, a residential school survivor at St. Joseph's Mission Residential School had her orange shirt taken from her upon arrival at Williams Lake, BC. This shirt was a gift and represented a piece of home, which was 85km away 🧡

Today We Wear Orange to commemorate the time thousands of Indigenous Children were taken from their homes and placed in residential school. It is a time for Truth and Reconciliation with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit 🧡

Be Future Ready 💫

It was a week of fairs at BT. Titans had the opportunity to check out and sign up for the various extracurriculars Bishop Tonnos has to offer at our Club Fair on Wednesday. Joining in school clubs is a great way to have fun, meet new people, and get involved in our community 💫

Today, our guidance department hosted the University and College fair. Our grade 11 and 12 students met with representatives to discuss their different pathways which hopefully helped in making some big decisions for their post-secodary futures 💫

OFSAA CHAMPS!!! 🏆🏐 Our Lady Titans travelled to Barrie to compete in the 3 day AAA Provincial Tournament. Seeded at #8 out of 20 teams, your girls came out on top with the #1 spot! 🏆🏐 It was a point for point battle vs. Pickering's Dunbarton HS that played out in all 5 sets, with the Titans taking it home 15-11 in the final 🏆🏐 The first ever OFSAA banner for BT Girls Volleyball and the second we've taken home this year in sports.
