Each winter and spring we have been honored to open our railroad to our community and host the Jingle Express and Spring Spirit Express Community Train Rides. These Community events have brought many friends and neighbors to join us in our vintage passenger car for a ride on the rails, while helping to support the local food bank.
Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to pause our Jingle Express Community Train Rides this December. Our railroad thrives on the export of wood products from Canada to the US, and the ongoing trade war between the US and Canada is placing wood products on the front lines. As volumes of wood product exports to the US decline and our overall freight volumes decrease, we are taking necessary cost savings measures to ensure our railroad can weather these challenge times.
While we’ve had generous support from local businesses for many years to help offset the cost of insurance for our Community Train Rides, the additional costs we incur to operate each ride is beyond our budget this year.
We’re hopeful that we’ll see a quick and fair resolution to the US/Canada Trade War, and we’re hopeful that we can bring back the Jingle Express and Spring Spirit Express soon.
We always appreciate the support of our community, neighbors, and friends, and appreciate the understanding of our need to pause our Community Train Ride this December.
