Family Safety Day will be bigger than ever this year. The event will take place at the Snye on June 15th from 10am-4pm and is being graciously sponsored by Coverall Uniform Linen and Mats as well as Camp Yogi Society. They are combining Family Safety Day (26 years running in the Fort McMurray region) with the Family Water Safety Day that has been happening in Anzac for the last couple of years.

This event is a free interactive tradeshow for non-profits and support groups within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. It aims to provide families and individuals of all ages with essential safety education, practical skills and resources to better protect themselves and their loved ones. This event is in support of Safe Community Wood Buffalo and Search and Rescue.

There will be face painters, balloon twisters, kids zone, BBQ by donation, dunk tank among other activities.

About 10 years ago, I got to tour the Celestial Seasonings factory in Boulder Colorado! Not only did the Sleepy Time Bear come out, but we also got to clear our sinuses in the perfectly sealed off mint tea room aka the bully tea, since it will infuse all the other teas if it's not kept separate.

The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon is back!

Every fall, hundreds of runners come to MacDonald Island Park to participate in the annual Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon.

Marathon runners can choose the distance they wish to run: full, half. 10k, 5k, 3k, and kid’s fun run.

This years marathon once again includes the fundraising element called “Run for a Reason”; runner choose a charity they wish to support and take pledges raising money for their favourite registered charities

Apparently I ran over a chunk of metal? It was only 5 minutes from my house so I walked home... gotta say a 5 minute drive feels close till you have to walk it at 4:45 in the morning ;)

Wood Buffalo RCMP advise that Highway 63 will be opening to one lane of traffic past the collision. Police remain on scene and will ensure traffic control to allow slow, alternating lanes of traffic. Please proceed through the area with caution, follow directions of police and expect delays in the area.

FYI: Wood Buffalo RCMP are on scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 63, just north of Mildred Lake. At this time, both directions of the Highway are impassable. There is no detour or alternate route available at this time with no estimated time to reopening.

Our thoughts are with all involved. We'll update when there is one available.

Last week my husband and I got to go to Fredericksberg Texas with his parents and brother to watch the Total Solar Eclipse! We spent the morning starring at the sky, wondering if the clouds the radar showed were going to disapate. There were a few breaks and in the four minutes of totality we got just under a minute to see it. It was so beautiful!!! And so dark all around us. I recorded a bit while it was happening. You can hear my excitement and wonder as the clouds clear and we see the engagement ring clearly in the sky. They say once you see one total solar eclipse – you start chasing them. I’m a believer! Let’s go Sydney 2028!! If we wait for it to come back to North America… we won’t see it until August 23, 2044!!! <3 Steph
