COMMUNITY: Local production is underway for ‘Legion of Honour’ series, coming to Bell Fibe TV1 in 2025, celebrating the Royal Canadian Legion - Cobourg Br. 133!

This powerful six-part documentary series brings to life the contributions of veterans, dedicated volunteers, and local heroes through testimonies that will keep their stories alive for generations.

🎖️ Highlighting the Canadian military's legacy in Cobourg, each episode delves into the Legion's impact on the community, including insights from veterans like Don Ramsey and Jimmy Keeler, and showcases the 598 Sabre Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets, Cobourg. The series also celebrates the legacy of Fern Blodgett Sunde, the first woman wireless radio operator at sea.

📅 Set to air in 2025, ‘Legion of Honour’ will be available to Bell Fibe TV subscribers on Channel 1 and the Fibe TV app. Don’t miss this incredible series honoring our local heroes!

COMMUNITY: Join us tomorrow, November 11th, for the Remembrance Day ceremony in Victoria Park at 10:30 a.m.

Prior to the ceremony, a Remembrance Day Parade will march from the Cobourg Legion (135B Orr Street) to Victoria Park beginning at 10 a.m.

The parade route will begin at the Cobourg Legion (135 Orr Street) and travel north on Hibernia St. east on King Street until turning right onto Church Street to make its way into Victoria Park. Following the ceremony, the parade will march from Victoria Park back to the Cobourg Legion taking the same route.

FIRE: The Cobourg Fire Department is reminding the community of the importance of having a working Carbon Monoxide alarm in your home.

By law, in Ontario, CO alarms are required to be installed outside all sleeping areas of homes with a fuel-burning appliance, fireplace, or attached garage.

Carbon Monoxide (CO) Awareness Week runs November 1-7.

COMMUNITY: Today (Friday, November 8, 2024) marks the 30th Canadian Indigenous Veterans Day. We pay solemn tribute to the enduring courage and sacrifices made by our Indigenous veterans. We remember and honour those who have served and continue to serve, defending our nation with unwavering valour and dignity.

These dedicated volunteers often had to overcome numerous obstacles to wear a uniform, including learning a new language, adapting to cultural differences, and making long journeys from their remote communities just to enlist.

COMMUNITY: Remembrance Day, observed on November 11, is a time to honour and remember the sacrifices of Canadian Armed Forces members who served in military conflicts.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 133 invites the public to a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Victoria Park Cenotaph on Monday, November 11, 2024, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

The ceremony will be preceded by a Remembrance Day Parade, marching from the Cobourg Legion (135B Orr Street) to Victoria Park. Join us as we come together to remember and pay tribute.

FIRE: The Cobourg Fire Department Firefighters and Chief Fire Prevention Officer Aaron Blair will be at Cobourg’s Home Hardware (650 Division Street) today (Sunday, November 3, 2024), from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to share information about Carbon Monoxide alarms.

"Having a working CO alarm in your home is the surest way to know you and your family are protected from exposure and injury from a CO leak," said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Ashfield. "CO is a colourless, odourless, and tasteless gas making it impossible to detect without a working CO alarm."
