Burbot, or Lota lota (I only know this because I heard it a million times during our trip 🙉), the only freshwater cod species in the world, what an unique looking fish! Tomorrow morning, we'll be dropping a couple of episodes highlighting our first burbot ice fishing experience on my and Life Of Linda Lee's YouTube channels. 😊

Attention Lower Mainland anglers, if you have enjoyed fishing Kawkawa Lake, a proposed gravel pit expansion right beside the lake has gone unnoticed and local residents have begun an online petition for it. Such expansion will impact local residents directly, but could also destroy the natural beauty which you've enjoyed in this area. You can learn more by clicking on the petition below.

We are aiming to influence provincial decision-makers to turn down the application by Hope Ready Mix for an expansion of the Cemetery Gravel Pit. The expansion more than triples the current size of the pit, poses a health and safety risk to residents and road users, and destroys the natural beauty o...

In the past two years, Mustang Survival has partnered with us for our ocean video projects. The weather on the West Coast can be unforgiving even in the summer so we're pretty glad to be suited with the best made right here in BC Canada. A good day at the sea is when you are safe and dry once back on land, and their apparels and PFD's have done just that. On this particular day, we got the exact conditions I needed to capture these photographs of Life Of Linda Lee pulling in a nice chinook salmon in the downpour.

This one will be hard to beat this season. 🙂

😳😳😳 Well boys and girls, Andy has done it again. If you didn't think last year's 18.07 pounder could be eclipsed you would have been wrong... drumroll 🥁 ... How does 20.02 pounds grab you? That is not a typo - TWENTY POINT ZERO TWO. This MONSTER buck steelhead was also 94 cm long 😳 and 50 cm in diameter 😳 A true legend on the river, Andy has a knack for catching BIG fish. 🥇

A huge thanks to all of our supporters who recently donated fish!

We are also grateful to Fishing with Rod and Fred's Custom Tackle for sharing our request to their followers and Fred’s for acting as a drop off location for the fish!

We now have three freezers full of fish which will last us into baby season! Thank you

This winter is the tenth year of me giving ice fishing a go in BC, and what a learning process it has been! My attitude toward ice fishing and how it impacts resources has evolved throughout this time span. What was once believed to be a lazy activity, it is in fact so difficult to do well. Sure, you can get on the ice, drill a hole, drop a baited hook down and wait for the bites, but if you really want to catch fish, you have to make educated guesses on where to fish, move around to find fish, and figure out how to trigger them to bite when fish show up. None of these I have mastered yet, but I have seen improvement and learning process has been very enjoyable. How has your ice fishing experience been? If you have never tried it and are looking for an activity to do between December and March, I highly recommend it. 🙂

Burbotty burb! We wrapped up our Cariboo ice fishing project yesterday by visiting one more lake even though my body said we needed to just go home. I'm glad that we did as the burbot were active! Many have referred to burbot as freshwater lingcod, which in fact is incorrect. They are not related to lingcod/greenling, but are in fact the only freshwater species in the cod and ling family. So let's hear it, how should I prepare these in the kitchen? 😁

It's ok to be addicted to this video game. 😉 Kokanee are typically found in big, deep lakes. When ice fishing for them, you are often sitting above 50 to 80ft of water. Without a depth sounder, it makes fishing quite challenging because you'd just be dropping your line down blindly without knowing what depth the fish are travelling through. With a depth sounder, you can see your rig on the graph, as well as fish when they are right beneath you. The excitement happens when you place your rig at the same depth as the schools, and wait for the taps on your rod tip.

Solid kokanee outing today. 🤪 In the Cariboo region, kokanee is a popular target species for ice fishermen. The fishing can be fast and hot especially early in the morning when schools of fish travel through. They are generally between 14 and 16 inches long, but bigger fish up to 18", even 20" can be caught at times.

Life Of Linda Lee slayed in our latest ice fishing episode. 😏 The setup is pretty simple. She went with a slightly heavier Shimano Convergence ice rod (6-10lb) for better hookset, but you can see that it still got a good bend from the fight. The reel is a Sedona 500. Catch the video if you haven't seen it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrNRz0nPH5M
