Hello readers! Welcome to the wright kind of book talk
It’s March 4th 2025 and this is Episode 17 - Tropes. The new way of reading and reviewing books.
I have noticed a lot of book reviews lately come with a list of tropes and very little in the way of a conversational review. It seems to be becoming popular… A lot of readers use tropes as a way of picking books as well so clearly the evolution of how we choose our books is adapting and reviewers are on board with that.
Come with me on the exploration journey of the trope and what are the most popular ones in each genre. Might even recommend a book or two!!

Episode 16 - Triggers and Tropes… The evolution of how we choose our books. This is such a controversial topic in my groups right now. The line is clear. Those that believe it is on the author to provide a list of anything that could potentially upset someone and those who believe its on the reader to do the research, like checking goodreads or storygraph, that has all the triggers for books listed thanks to people who have reviewed the book.

So what is a trigger warning? watch the episode!!

Do you think books should come with trigger warnings?

I’m of the opinion it should a a generic warning that there might be something in it that could disturb you and it’s up to you to dive further but some people don’t agree.

Did you know you can go to it’s free and if you go to a book, it compiles a list of book triggers for you?

Take control yourself 🙂

What are you opinions on tropes? Do you like to know what tropes are in the book before you read it?

Episode 15 - A journey through literary darkness - Books under a cloud of controversy

What books have the kind of marketing no author wants… I was watching a heated debate with a group of readers about the book American Dirt…Being the kind of person I am, I didn’t add my 2 cents to the insanity but it made me wonder… What books out there have been overshadowed by negative connotations. I went to FB and I wasn’t expecting the influx of books and authors surrounded in controversy. I swear I don’t live under a rock but I somehow had missed a boat load of drama and part of me is grateful but the other part wonders what else I miss out on. The drama and controversy surrounding it ends with us and the legal troubles that both the main stars are having has brought to the surface some troubling things about the author of the book Colleen Hoover

🥱🥱QOTD how many disruptions can you get while reading before you just say F it??🥱🥱

My house is loaded with bookmarks. I do mean loaded and I’m lucky I always have one but are the bomb because I clip it to the cover when I’m reading. No misplacing it.

I have a friend who works for an indie publishing house. The talk of trigger warnings and whether authors should list them in books has become a hot point of contention between readers and believe it or not, between authors and their publishers.

So I want to know whether or not readers want/need trigger warnings in books and what do you consider a trigger?

My friend had someone who filed a complaint that they didn't know the MC had an abortion in the book (it was literally that the MC mentioned she had one at 16 after unprotected s*x with her BF back then and was in one sentence and not mentioned again) but the reader has fertility issues and it really upset her. Should this have been a trigger warning?

So I am wondering what trigger warnings do you feel are necessary in a book and how much of the book should it be in for the warning to be necessary.

This will be episode 15 of my podcast!

What Are Trigger Warnings in Books

According to Merriam-Webster, a trigger warning is “a statement cautioning that content (as in a text, video, or class) may be disturbing or upsetting.” The term actually comes from the study of post traumatic disorder and how people’s PTSD symptoms can be “triggered” by certain things like graphic violence in a scene.

The talk right now is should authors add trigger warnings to their books to allow readers the chance to decide if they want to read it.. this is a weird topic to be honest. People with triggers don’t tend to read books that need warnings but let’s say a woman has fertility issues and a romance book maybe has an abortion in it. This could be a complex issue for her.. should there be a warning or is it a spoiler?

Let me know what you think in the comments

Do you have an autoimmune disease? Do you find even reading becomes hard during a flare up?

I listen to audiobooks and doom scroll!

I won’t be dropping an episode tomorrow as I don’t have it in me to sit and film it. I’m hoping to get back to back episodes filmed before the end of the week though but watch out for the dark side of literature episode on

The biggest things on the agenda are memoirs that are mostly fiction based, plagurism and problematic authors.

Join me for an indepth discussion on the darker side of publishing.
