🌼 Mindfulness Calligraphy Event on a Residential Rooftop Garden

Last Friday, we hosted an unforgettable event on a residential rooftop garden- a perfect summer evening with like-minded individuals who came together to practice mindfulness and connect through collaborative calligraphy and ink art.

The tranquil and serene setting of the rooftop garden provided the perfect backdrop for the event. The sound of the breeze, the aroma of fresh flowers, and the stunning view of the city skyline added to the overall experience.

At this event, we focused on writing and painting bamboo while exploring its philosophical meaning in Eastern culture. We used the art of calligraphy to express ourselves mindfully and connect with each other in a supportive and encouraging environment.

The unique activity of Chinese calligraphy and ink art brought out our creativity and allowed us to express ourselves through mindful strokes and ink art. It was a beautiful blend of mindfulness, art, and community, where we shared our experiences and learned from each other.

Practicing mindfulness has numerous benefits for our mental and physical well-being, including stress reduction, increased focus, improved sleep quality, and overall feelings of positivity and happiness.

The Chinese character 稳 (wěn) means 'surely' or 'steady', and is a reminder to take the time necessary to do things right. Its composition, formed by combining two symbols, further emphasizes its meaning. On the left is 禾 (hé), which represents 'grain'; while on the right is 急ji (jí), signifying 'rush' or 'hurry'. Literally it means if you're growing rice, you know that it takes time from planting until harvest - around six months - any attempting to speed up the process will only lead to withering of the grain and stress on your part.

The Chinese character “静” is a unique symbol that carries a special wisdom - one that has been passed down for thousands of years. It is composed of two distinct characters. On the left, the symbol represents sky blue, which is thought to be associated with tranquility and peace. On the right, it represents competition - a reminder that in stillness and serenity lies strength for achieving success. Together they create a reminder that in stillness and quietude lies the strength to compete, and through it we can focus our energy more effectively to achieve success.

Welcome the New Year of the Rabbit with Chinese Calligraphy and Wine!

Join us on February 17th at Contemporary Calgary to explore the composition of Chinese characters and their underlying philosophies. Instructors will be on hand to guide your creative journey as you learn about beautiful Chinese calligraphy. Of course, no evening would be complete without a glass of wine to help fuel the conversation with your friends!

We will explore 5 major Chinese calligraphy styles to write "福“(blessing) and learn how to draw 兔 (rabbits) in ink. Finally, we will write 福兔on nice presentation papers, so that you can start the new year with love and good luck.

Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the art of Chinese calligraphy in a peaceful and relaxing setting. We look forward to seeing you there!

Calligratherapy, Chinese Conscious Calligraphy, it's success comes from its unequalled beauty and the mysterious form it creates, from the richness of its history and the possibility to constantly innovate its styles, however, there is another hidden reason that too many people wish to practice it and sometime get attached to it forever: it is a mindful activity where the whole body is involved, and which brings physical, mental, social and spiritual benefits, an immediate feeling of well-being.
