Additional information: Snow squalls have moved into the Region from Lake Ontario. Travel along the Highway 401 corridor will be particularly hazardous.

Travel will likely be hazardous. Visibility will likely be suddenly reduced to near zero at times. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.

The Cooperative Care Centre, a local homeless shelter, closed its doors permanently on New Year’s Eve.

Operations ended at 8 a.m., ending more than five years of providing overnight emergency shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

TRAFFIC: The 401 WB is currently closed at the Gananoque River, just past County Road 32 due to a tractor trailer fire.

If you're heading west, exit at Gananoque and take Stone Street South to County Road 2, then follow CR2 to Joyceville Road to get around it before you get stuck.

Reopening time unknown.

***UPDATE*** 0900 hrs Fire crews have cleared the scene and returned to station. MTO has taken over the scene for cleanup purposes. Ontario 511 will have details on road openings & conditions.

Fire crews are battling a tractor trailer fire on Highway 401 westbound, west of County Rd 32 (exit 645). Currently, for safety reasons, Highway 401 westbound is closed. Please use alternate routes.

10:00pm Update: As the storm system that brought all the freezing rain moves out of the area tonight, some isolated snow squalls have kicked up, and while they are usually short in duration, we are getting reports from around the area tonight that some of them are bringing reduced visibility, especially on some of our rural roads.

At 10pm winds are still gusting from the West at 60 KM/H and blowing that snow around.

We expect it to stay gusty through the night, and for the snow squalls to die down after midnight.
