Overwhelm is that feeling in a moment when you sense you can’t handle it all and your mind begins to race.

You might feel overwhelmed because:

· You are doing it all on your own.

· You are not exactly sure what is expected of you?

· You are not sure of your approach.

· You’ve set too high an expectation.

· You can’t control all of the factors.

· Time constraints.

· A heavy volume of work.

· To do list is daunting.

Sometimes the pressure and uncertainty of overwhelm combined with the fact that you can’t get it all done is going to negatively impact your well-being because it severely limits your energy, focus, and motivation.

In many cases, overwhelm happens over time.

In order to promote your best thinking, you need to make sure the capacity in your brain is clear so that you can focus on the things that are important to you so you can move the needle.

But, what happens to some of us is that our brains start to fill up with information (sometimes toxicity or garbage) and this overload can lead to a state of overwhelm.

What I have learned by researching top athletes, successful business owners, musicians and even philanthropists is that your behaviour is always aligned with the images and ideas that run through your brain regularly.

This is why I believe the most underrated skill is visualization.

The recreation of images, sounds, and environments before it has happened, is one of the most powerful skills you can have.

In fact, visualization has been used for centuries to help prepare the mind, body, and consciousness for upcoming challenges, situations, and circumstances.

Visualization and the recreation of that moment in time allows people to prepare mentally.

Visualization with practice, hard work, intention, and action can be the formula for greatness.

Visualization can assist you in achieving your goals, tasks, and dreams.

If you let these limiting beliefs control your path, you will make it very challenging for yourself to achieve your goals.

In order to break through your own limiting beliefs, you must understand what they are and how each limiting belief has held you back from achieving personal success and even your dreams.

We have all experienced negative people at some point in our lives.

It may have been at work, at a club/organized event, a family member or a friend.

In the past, I have been given the standard advice from trusted advisors about toxic people…

Just remove them from your life.

While this may work in some situations, it does not make sense in all relationship settings to ‘just get rid of negative people’ and just associate with positive people all the time.

What happens if the negative person is your boss, a colleague on your team or part of your family?

What do you do in a real-life situation when not everyone is positive, optimistic, and conforming to your positivity and energy?

We all know people who are very critical, discouraging, always complaining and energy zappers.

These are people who always find something wrong with a situation – the weather or the news for example.

So, getting rid of these people from your life for good, may not be realistic in every situation.

I believe that fear gets too much airplay.

It has become a common word in our language and fear is almost always related to negative contemplative thoughts that are replaying in our minds too often.

In fact, we build a vision of fear in our future even though it hasn’t even happened yet!

It might be because we hold much of our past in our minds and refuse to let go, which prevents us from living in the moment because we are scared.

Fear isn’t always awful or scary thoughts – in fact, most fear is bad management of our own mental faculties.

I believe we have more powerful capabilities than we think or give ourselves credit for.

NEVER AIM for PERFECTION!

Aiming for perfection = pressure

How well do you do anything when you feel pressured?

In the past, one of the reasons why I did not reach my goals is because of my desire to be perfect.

I strived for perfection and because I could never achieve it, I trained myself unknowingly not to try new things.

I kept myself confined in my comfort zone thinking I was protecting myself, not realizing that I was holding myself back from achieving my goals.

So I made a decision …

A decision to aim for something Attainable.

To set myself up for Success…

I started aiming for Excellence…

I aimed for Mastery…

I aimed to always be better!

I’m now achieving more and doing things in my life that I never thought I could do.

That simple mindset shift changed the course of my future.

Burnout is a risk too many of us take.

In my thirties and early forties, I personally experienced burnout.

I felt it most when I listened to others and not my own body because I was working too hard for other people without thinking of myself.

In the past, I would make time for others, but not myself and every day started to feel like a burden.

I felt heavy and started to feel frustrated at every little thing that went wrong.

I never allowed myself to truly rest or even walk at a slower pace because I was constantly running.

Running to work, to class, to help my friends and my family.

I was always running out of time, staying up late, going out when I really just wanted to stay in and go to bed.

Not only was I outrunning myself constantly, I was always trying to outperform myself or work harder to get ahead…but it wasn’t in a good way.

I thought testing my limits was good, but I broke myself in the process and it just wasn’t worth it.

I believe that forgiveness is something you practice consistently. It is a skill that needs to be learned.

Forgiveness means that you are no longer blaming or punishing yourself for what happened in the past.

This means you are no longer:

· Wishing it were different.

· Replaying the moment in your head constantly so it takes over your clarity and how you present yourself to world.

· Struggling to let go of a hardship or a difficult time in the past.

The power of forgiveness is about being able to ‘move on’ in your mind and let your heart heal.

I speak from experience when I share that as long as you continue the act of ‘wishing things were different’, you are going to feel an enormous amount of pain or guilt.

Forgiveness is about freeing yourself emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. It’s an incredible act of grace you can give to yourself.

My advice is to never do tomorrow what you can do today. Procrastination is the thief of time.’-Charles Dickens.

WE HAVE ALL DONE IT!

Procrastinated when we had to get something done or start something new.

We procrastinate because:

· We can’t make a decision.

· The activity, task or assignment is too large and complex.

· We are afraid to fail or disappoint someone.

· The timing isn’t perfect.

· The finished product needs to be perfect and so we delay.

· We just don’t feel like starting.

· We may not understand the task, exercise, or assignment.

· It’s not a pleasant or enjoyable experience.

Speaking as a chronic procrastinator in my past, I thought procrastinating or delaying an assignment, task, exercise, or goal would make me feel better, at least for the short term.

But, over time it damaged my ability to get things done.

We all deal with self-doubt, and as human beings, it effects us all at some point in our lives.

In fact, it seems to creep its way into our soul and somehow persuades us to play small.

It holds us back like an anchor by controlling our self-talk.

Our self-talk or inner villain tells us to wait for outside circumstances to happen or change before we begin to pursue our goals or dreams.

Self Doubt is a learned behaviour, and these inner villains remind us of our dark or uncomfortable past by prompting you to delay pursuing your goals or play it safe because of repeated failures or harsh judgements by others.

But you can take action despite them!

Being present or mindful means…

Being alive, centered, peaceful, and connected to the moment.

It’s a full activation of your senses in the here and now.

Over the past few years, I have heard and read about the magic of being present in the moment.

How this practice can quiet our minds from the external noise around us which is designed to seep into our thoughts and distract us from planning and executing our goals and dreams.

But this practice is easier said than done. It seems simple, but it’s not easy.

It appears despite our honest intentions; we are caught in reactive traps.

Meaning we are constantly in reactive mode in our minds and not feeling centered or peaceful or connected to the moment.

On the most basic level, we struggle as humans to focus on one thing – a conversation, a meeting, a project, a task without distraction, without wanting to be somewhere else or restless or lost in our own thoughts.

Change the context in which you represent things…

In other words…

Change the meaning of a thought, experience or an event to something that will EMPOWER you.

For example…

Your wife is late…

Negative frame: How can she do this to me? She so rude.

Positive frame: What else can this mean? She’s so thoughtful, I bet there’s a good reason why she’s running behind (ie. Stopped for gas, buying us dinner so I dont have to cook, getting groceries. I’m so blessed she’s my wife).

For many… we often look for the worst possible scenario.

OUTCOME????

Our thoughts effect our emotions, which impacts our quality of our life…

So if we REFRAME what things mean to us… we instantly improve the quality of our life.
