William Dawson Sprite Basketball Tournament Comes to an End; Tuff E Nuff Crowned Champions
The William Dawson Sprite Basketball Tournament concluded in thrilling fashion, with rookie team Tuff E Nuff emerging as champions after an intense final showdown.
Earlier in the day, Class finished in fourth place, while the Lords Bank Warriors secured third after winning the opening game, which served as the third-place playoff.
All eyes, however, were on the championship matchup between Don One and first-time tournament entrants Tuff E Nuff. Though labeled a rookie team due to their debut appearance in the William Dawson Sprite Basketball Tournament, Tuff E Nuff proved they were anything but inexperienced, boasting a roster packed with hardworking and talented players.
The championship game went down to the wire, with tensions running high throughout the fourth quarter. Questionable calls sparked reactions from fans and players on both sides, adding to the drama of an already electric atmosphere.
Led by Coach Black and key contributors Francis “90” Arana and Kurt “Chengo” Burgess, along with strong support from the rest of the squad, Tuff E Nuff edged out Don One with a narrow 38–36 victory, earning championship honors and a $5,000 cash prize.
Tournament coordinator Douglas “Dougie Fresh” Hyde expressed gratitude to all partners and supporters, including the Leadership Intervention Unit, Belize Police Department, Digi, Department of Youth Services, Rotary Club of Belize, Ministry of Home Affairs and Enterprises, and longtime partner Sprite (Crystal Bottling), for making the tournament a success.
