Africa’s contribution to global travel is a measly 2% despite having a population of 1.4 billion (20% of the world’s population), and the continent needs to implement result-orientated and practical measures to contribute on a large scale. If African states are committed to boosting travel, more efforts should be put into getting rid of restrictions and reducing the cost of intra-Africa travel.

Today, Air Botswana, in a funfair, launched its latest aircraft with a "water salute"—a ceremonial tribute in aviation reserved for special occasions.

The Embraer E175 named Kalahari, the latest gem in Air Botswana’s expanding fleet, is part of the airline’s ongoing transformation journey, which includes the addition of 4 aircraft to its existing fleet, new routes, and a fresh new livery to usher in a new era for the national airline.

In his keynote address, His Excellency The President of the Republic of Botswana, Dr. Eric Keabetswe Mokgweetsi Masisi, highlighted that this expansion of infrastructure, including the revitalization of key airports, is the government's unwavering commitment to transforming the aviation sector to facilitate economic growth and improve transport logistics.

"By adding more fleet into aviation, we are not only enhancing aviation infrastructure but positioning ourselves as key players in the global aviation value chain, thus driving economic diversification and fostering international trade, tourism, and business opportunities," he added.
