📚 BOOK REVIEW

From Grass to Grace is a memoir, authored ny Mathogonolo Sebeka and published by Poeticblood Publishers . It describes events that happened to the author, how she grew up and her life journey. It amplifies the trials and tribulations that Sebeka went thru. This emotional, personal book talks about how her parents divorced, how it affected her and her studies, how she had to gain enough strength being raised by a single parent.

Mathogonolo Sebeka is a Motswana woman hailing from Serowe, who wears many hats. Some of her roles includes; the Director of Matie's Sales Corner and Matie's dress rental boutique as well as being a teacher by profession. Matie as she affectionately known is also a motivational speaker, and now an author of this new book From Grass to Grace.

As a motivational speaker, she believes
that she was born to transform people
through speaking and empowering hence
she is the Founder and President of Motivational talks by Matie

"I want to share with someone especially young people, that what ever you are going thru, I also went through" - stated Sebeka in an exclusive interview with Leisong Magazine

The author elaborates that she managed to achieve and win against all odds. The theme for her book and upcoming book launch is "winning against all odds." Sebeka wanted to inspire someone out there and motivate them so as to know that challenges are temporary and they shall overcome.

"Parents tend to forget about children and how they will be affected, kids need counselling, so it's also to teach parents about this." highlighted Sebeka. She also wanted people to know that her life right now might seem all rosy and smooth; however she went through hardships and is forever thankful to God, whom has been with her through her journey.

From Grass To Grace is expected to be launched on 21st September 2024 from 6pm, at Sunshine Conference Center in Phase 2. The book will then be readily available for sale afterwards.

📚 BOOK REVIEW

Book Title: Judge Dingake Selected Speeches and Writings
Author: Senior Magistrate Kgopolo Ntseane
Publisher: Notion Press Notion Press Publishing
Pages: 322

The foreword is written by Thomas Sibusiso Masuku - Judge of the High Court of Namibia, and former Judge of the High Courts of Botswana and Swaziland.

Judge Dingake Selected Speeches and Writings captures the cream of Judge Dingake Speeches and Writings.

"I first came to know Honourable Justice Key Bethuel Dingake when I was assigned to his chambers as a research assistant in the year 2014. During that period and over the years I have documented his most famous speeches and compiled them into this here book." empahized the author Kgopolo Ntseane in an exclusive interview with Leisong Magazine

The topics cover issues of human rights, constitutional-ism and the rule of law. Justice Dingake’s writings reflect a mind of a jurist that believes in the power of law to change lives for the better. The first chapter written in what could be noted as mini biography introduces the reader to the Judge quite meticulously.

A snippet of the chapter reads

"My life journey is long. By way of introduction and for present purposes it is sufficient to say I am native of Bobonong village in Botswana. I was born to peasant parents. Life appeared blisfull then: we were free to roam the forest and catch birds, splash in the streams and rivers and spend nights counting the stars on the milky way. Did I set out to be judge? The answer is yes! In one of my books I tell a story of how, when I was hardly 12 years old, I wrote to my brother, then serving in Robben Island, asking on what qualification I needed to obtain to either be a judge or president. By the time I was in High school, my resolve to be a judge was firm. I studied hard and ended up acquiring an LLB degree from the University of Botswana and an LLM from the University of London. I continued until I acquired my Phd form the University of Capetwon, which in 2013 honoured me with an Honorary Professorship."

This sets the tone and serves as the perfect introduction to what's to come in the book.

Justice Dingake goes on to say that being a Judge is not a job, it is a calling. Being appointed a Judge is akin to priesthood. Even today, the idea that judgeship is akin to priesthood subsists because of the belief that a judges epitomize righteousness, fairness and jusitce.

The author therefore wants the reader to get a sense and inspiration of Justice Dingake’s journey in the law and the contents of his writings, to which the core is that by and large the rights of the vulnerable and marginalized groups require heightened attention and protection by the courts.

"The book is likely to prove particularly useful to the legal fraternity and civil society groups that often vindicate human rights." said Ntseane in closing.

The book launch is scheduled for 23rd November 2024 at Stanbic Bank Incubator at Fairgrounds Mall.

Judge Dingake Selected Speeches and Writings is readily available in Gaborone - call or send a whatsapp to +267 74809188. Copies are also available on Amazon Amazon.com https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0D2TQDXHS

Birthdays are days when one should be showered with gifts and blessings, however some choose to celebrate their birthdays by giving back to the community.

One such soul is Tshepang Segokgo aka Bosslady of Tshepang Charity Foundation who is a philanthropist, author, and has the community at her heart. Today [08th August 2024] is her birthday but she will officially celebrate it this Saturday.

"I am donating food to 11 families as part of my birthday celebrations; in Mogoditshane next to Millennium this Saturday 10th August 2024, 12 noon the event starts" said Tshepang in brief interview with Leisong Magazine

Compassionate, caring and generous are words that can be associated with such humble individuals as Tshepang, who see it fit to help and give back to the less privileged. It is a commendable effort that ought to be appreciated, applauded and supported.

This spectacular event, a brainchild of Edward Maloiso and his team, has been gaining momentum since its inception, growing into a platform that champions both inner and outer strength.

"The idea to merge beauty and fitness into the Miss Aesthetics Botswana competition was sparked by the belief that true empowerment encompasses both inner and outer strength," Maloiso explained. "Beauty and fitness together reflect a holistic approach to personal development, encouraging women to embrace their physical health while also celebrating their unique beauty." The competition has since expanded to incorporate mental health awareness and self-confidence workshops, empowering participants in all aspects of their lives.
