NDADI IS THE NEW CEO OF OLD MUTUAL BOTSWANA

Old Mutual Botswana has appointed Priscillah Ndadi as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 February 2025.
As a born and bred Motswana, and the First Female CEO of the Group in the country, the appointment reflects Old Mutual’s commitment to diversity, empowerment, and transformation.

Priscillah brings with her over 20 years of experience in the financial services sector, having held several key and executive management roles across the non-bank financial services sector in leading institutions covering life insurance, pension fund administration, asset management and funeral services.

Most recently, in her position as Chief Operating Officer at Metropolitan, she played an instrumental role in leading strategy development and implementation for the business, driving retail business growth, and improving operational efficiencies and overall customer experience.

Throughout her illustrious career, Priscillah has prioritised the development of strong leadership and business competence, empowering teams to deliver consistently in line with strategic objectives. Priscillah holds an MSc in Strategic Management from the University of Derby, and a Bachelor of Accountancy from the University of Botswana, as well as having completed a Leadership Development Programme through the University of Stellenbosch. She is also a Licentiate of the Insurance Institute of South Africa since 2011.

1000 women, all 55 African countries: Africa’s women shaping the global agenda

South Africa will host a transformative gathering of 1,000 women, 16 from each of the 55 African countries, later this month in a unique five-day dialogue focused on advancing women’s contributions to the continental and global agenda.

“What sets this summit apart is its focus on inclusivity,” says Riah Phiyega, CEO of WDB Trust.

“60% of the attendees are women from grassroots areas —women from urban and rural communities, many of whom have never travelled beyond their home countries. Their voices, perspectives, and experiences will be at the heart of the dialogue held, making it a truly transformative and representative forum”, Phiyega continues.

Also, business leaders, government leaders, civil society, public servants, entrepreneurs, activists, academics, students, and homemakers will attend.

Convened by the Women’s Development Business Trust (WDB Trust), founded in 1991, WDB Trust was created to empower women and rural communities. The African Women in Dialogue (AfWID) brings together a remarkable mix of women from all walks of life. AfWID is an inclusive platform of dialogue committed to strengthening the continental African women’s movement. The week-long (27-31 January 2025) AfWID forum creates a platform for women to reflect, connect, and share strategies to address the persistent challenges African women face. Emphasising collective power, solidarity, and sisterhood, the forum aims to elevate women from daily struggles and inspire meaningful change.

Two highly successful dialogues were hosted in 2018 and 2019. After a hiatus brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, AfWID is thrilled to resume with the 3rd instalment of this vital initiative.

“As the world confronts challenges like political shifts, climate change, conflict, deepening poverty and unemployment, and economic inequality, AfWID3 will harness the energy, innovation, and creativity of African women to shape solutions for a better future,” Phiyega explained.

The AfWID3 agenda includes thought-provoking keynote speeches, interactive workshops, networking sessions, and cultural showcases, culminating in a visionary declaration to be presented at continental and international forums.

Beyond Beijing 1995

Under the theme "Women’s Voice and Power as Agents of Change”, the AfWID3 gathering will amongst others commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action, adopted unanimously by 189 countries. In addition, the forum will reflect on progress made and yet to be achieved.

“We aim to explore how collectively African women can contribute to the Beijing Declaration anniversary, ensuring a meaningful impact on this global forum. It is about leveraging the power of collective efforts as we work together to reimagine the future we want.,” Phiyega added.

The review of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action will take place at the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women from March 10 to 21, 2025 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

“We are rewriting the narrative of African women as passive participants in societal development. Together, we will showcase the transformative power of women’s leadership across every sphere of life,” Phiyega said.

Absa weathered the rough economic conditions and achieved important growth. While delivering presentation of the half year results for the period ended 30 June 2024 in September, Pheko-Moshagane said the solid performance came on the backdrop of constrained local economic environment choked by primarily by weak diamond demand has led to a 5.3% economic contraction in Q1 2024.

WATCH: Maipelo Russia, a make up and nails artist based at Railpark shopping mall, has come up with an ingenious idea to capitalise on an impromptu market at BA ISAGO graduation ceremony happening today. She has set up her make up table by the parking lot so as to service walk-in clients,especially parents of graduates, who have come to witness this significant milestone in their children's academic lives.

NGAMILAND BASKET WEAVERS MAKING AN IMPACT A group of 50 remarkable women in Etsha 7, known as the Ngamiland Basket Weavers, have found a way to turn their traditional craft into a sustainable livelihood. Through their cooperative, these women have harnessed the natural resources around them, weaving intricate baskets that not only celebrate their cultural heritage but also provide them with a steady income. Founder, Katenya Phithatho, proudly shared the story of their resilience. "In 2019, I sold one of my baskets for P35,000, which allowed me to purchase my personal vehicle. That sale marked a significant milestone for us, showing what we can achieve when we come together." Just recently, the cooperative sold 100 baskets for P25,000 to the Ministry of Entrepreneurship. However, like many businesses, COVID-19 hit them hard. Yet, their determination never wavered. Despite the challenges, the cooperative has continued to thrive, even purchasing a brand-new 4.2 Land Cruiser from their collective earnings—a testament to their resourcefulness and unity. As Katenya explained during a recent video blog, "We may be in remote Botswana, but we’re connected through our craft, our community, and our shared goal of building better lives for ourselves and our families." Their efforts were recognized at the just-ended Consumer Fair, where they secured 2nd position in the Basketry category. Ngamiland Basket Weavers is a brilliant example of how women in rural Botswana are using their skills, determination, and the land’s natural resources to forge their own paths to success.

The Patriot Woman was launched in 2016 as a pull-out insert of The Patriot on Sunday newspaper and ultimately became glossy edition it is today. Its objective is mainly to enhance the profile and profiling of women, telling their unique stories to inspire, motivate and encourage other women and the nation as a whole. The magazine was distributed as an insert in the newspaper until September 2018. The magazine is now being sold as a stand-alone in select stores around the country.
