IMPACT OF U.S FUNDING WITHDRAWAL ON AFRICA
The potential withdrawal of the United States from the World Health Organization (WHO) under a renewed Donald Trump's presidency raises significant concerns about the future of global health collaboration. The U.S. has historically been one of the largest financial contributors to the WHO and its withdrawal could not only impact funding, but also weaken coordinated responses to global health emergencies. For Africa, which relies heavily on WHO programs for disease control, vaccination efforts and health system support, the repercussions could be particularly severe. This discussion aims to explore the implications of such a move on global health governance and Africaβs public health landscape.

WORLD CANCER DAY COMMEMORATION
On February 4th, Botswana will join the world in commemorating World Cancer Day. According to the HPV Centre, cervical cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in Botswana, with an estimated 374 new cases and 207 deaths annually. The age-standardized mortality rate for cervical cancer in Botswana is 20.1 per 100,000 women, significantly higher than the global average, as reported by Penn Medicine. The high prevalence of HIV in Botswana, approximately 20% of the population aged 15 to 64, increases the risk of developing cervical cancer. This discussion will focus on this year's commemoration and the initiatives the government has put in place to combat cervical cancer.
