AGENT OF HAPPINESS FILM REVIEW BY TASHI GYELTSHEN (FILMMAKER)

For the first time in our cinematic history, here is a film that is not afraid to look back at our gaze, albeit in a gentle embrace of empathy. Through little moments of joy, sadness, humor, honesty, reflection and importantly hope we see ourselves in the characters. However, it also reminds us that
there is always a time for a song, for a dance. The documentary, Agent of Happiness, by Arun Bhattarai and Dorottya Zurbo, which held its world premiere at the distinguished Sundance, is a deep and profound sigh of joy in the world of relentless pursuit of happiness. Why joy? Not because the film talks about happiness in a grandiose way and how it will change the world. But because a young schoolgirl dreams to become a police officer and look after her alcoholic mother, a transgender opens up with her mother and wishes to be reborn as a beautiful woman, the three wives of a patriarch have learnt to live in harmony and in each other's support and consolation, an old man after his wife's death finds solace in a newly born grandson and the agent of happiness himself hopes to find a wife while asking endless questions to the characters of the film and strangers around the country in a quest to measure how happy people are. To be happy is a noble aspiration. But crests and troughs are part of the wave-a part of life. Agent of Happiness is
not about happiness. It's about us.

Playing with the minimum subject in the frame yet a lot of beauty in the foreground, with a blossoming peach flower on a wide, clear sky backdrop. In between the alluring snow-capped mountain and the majestic Talakha monastery.
