Last summer we had Tandin Bidha at for her movie promotions, but in between, we managed to sneak in a few extra questions to our favorite Keti. She talks about her career after becoming a mother and what keeps her grounded amidst the glitz and glamor of the industry

“On this day when the beings of all realms saw each other, there was no one who did not want to be the Buddha.”

Lhabab Duchen is celebrated on the 22nd day in the ninth lunar month of the Bhutanese calendar (which coincides with 15 November 2022) and marks the anniversary of the Buddha’s descent from the heavenly realm to the earth.
When Shakyamuni’s mother ‘Queen Māyā of Sakya’ died seven days after Lord Buddha was born, she was reborn as a celestial being in the Trayatrimsa heaven (the realm of devas), which is still part of samsara (the cycle of birth, death and rebirth).

After the Buddha attains enlightenment, he goes to Trayatrimsa to teach his mother and other celestial beings and repay his mother’s kindness by liberating her from samsara. After three months of teaching in the heavenly realm, the Buddha decides to return to his disciples and lay followers. His descent from heaven takes place at Sankashya in modern Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Dharmapada-Atthakatha records that when the Buddha is ready to return, Indra makes three ladders for the Buddha’s descent. The ladders connect the summit of Mount Meru, where the Trayatrimsa heaven is located, and the earthly human sphere, near Sankashya city. The Buddha uses the ladder made of jewels in the middle; Indra uses the right ladder of gold, and Brahma uses the left ladder of silver. Indra and Brahma are depicted as the Buddha’s attendants.

When the Buddha descended from heaven, he looked upwards, and all the worlds from the human world up to the highest heavenly realm were illuminated. As he looked around in each direction of the universe, it became clear and unobstructed. And when he looked downwards, the illumination continued down to the hell realms.
At that instant, the beings living in these three realms could see each other. The human beings saw the devas, the devas saw the humans, the humans and the devas saw the hell beings, and the hell beings saw the devas and humans. And all could see the Buddha descending from the ladder gloriously.

👩‍🔬Understanding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) & the importance of these industries is the key to changing minds about the opportunities involved. But of course, it all starts with education and breaking down the confusion or uncertainty around STEM

👩‍🔬Women in STEM Bhutan is a collaborative voluntary initiative of Bhutanese women working in stem-related jobs in the country. They coordinated the first-ever STEM festival in the country.

👩‍🔬The festival debuted different models on envirothon and smart city. From roads powered by the sun to aquaponic food production systems, the festival was a kaleidoscope of young innovations and the celebration of women in STEM.

11 November 2022:

Ten years after a fire razed it to the ground, the Wangduephodrang Dzong once again adorns the fabled hill resembling the trunk of a sleeping elephant.

The historic Wangduephodrang Dzong, rebuilt to its former glory upon Royal Command, was consecrated today on the auspicious occasion of 11th November.

His Majesty The King, His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen, Their Royal Highnesses Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel and Gyalsey Ugyen Wangchuck, and Members of the Royal Family graced the Tashi Rabney (consecration) of the Dzong. His Holiness the Je Khenpo presided over the ceremony and the prayers, which began on 9 November.
