8 March 2023:

His Majesty The King granted an Audience to participants of the 56th Batch DeSuung Training Programme, ongoing at Pelrithang, in Gelephu today.

The 56th DeSuung Training Programme is special, as it is a three-and-half-months long programme which pilots a part of the training designed for Gyalsung, when it begins in 2024. The training, held at RBA Wing IX in Pelrithang, close to one of the Gyalsung Academies, is also being held around the same time of year as it will feature at Gyalsung. The 500 participants selected for this batch, half men and half women, are youths between the ages 18-21.

The training programme, which includes Basic Military Training, National Education, and Life Skills Development, will be the part of the Gyalsung Training programme common to all five Gyalsung Academies.

His Majesty The King thanked the young women and men for volunteering for the special De-Suung training programme, and said that their participation and the lessons learnt from this programme will be of immense benefit to Gyalsung, and therefore generations of Bhutanese who will be part of Bhutan’s National Service.

Mr. Sonam Norbu is an Edupreneur, social worker and a lifelong learner. Sonam has been a teacher for 12 years. Currently Sonam has founded VTOB Educational Solutions and Services which comprises of a community based organization, an institute and few social enterprises that aims to enhance educational engagements to nurture active citizens through consistent quality services that are innovative, problem solving, relevant and affordable. Sonam has led the Teacher volunteers group of 6000 plus teachers in 2020 wherein the team volunteered to provide continued education to more than 1,70,000 students during the school closures due to the pandemic. He has a Masters in Education Studies from the University of Canberra, Australia. Sonam works with young university graduates and is on a social drive to transform challenges into endless opportunities and solve social problems through educational engagements and initiatives. Sonam believes that education is the key to solving all problems and it should go beyond classrooms and examination grades-education must nurture lifelong learning active citizens. Sonam is trying to complement and supplement mainstream education as well as support youth engagement and employment opportunities.

Dear Children and Parents,
VTOB is excited to open registrations for our Annual Vacation Engagement and Skills Development Camp.

With the Aim: Engage, Enhance and Empower children meaningfully during vacations through personal, skills and academic development.
We look forward to achieve the Motto: I CAN and We CAN be Active Citizens.

We have an exciting line up of activities which will engage, empower and enhance children’s personal development.

The camps will host children from across the nation in two types of camps- a day camp in Thimphu and Paro; and a Day and Night camp in Punakha and Phuntsholing.

✌️All class levels from any schools are eligible for the days camps in Thimphu and Paro.

✌️Any class 5-10 student from any school is eligible for the Punakha and Phuntsholing camps.

✌️ Special ABC Camp for Class PP-3 students will be organised from 15 November. Admission is open anytime

"Picture with King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk and Queen Jetsun Pema of the Kingdom of Bhutan at the reception held by the British Foreign Secretary after the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral service in London.

I had a good conversation with his Majesty who is a humble and engaging young man with a vision for his kingdom.

I asked him whether the increase to the US $200 fee per day for tourists entering Bhutan will affect the tourism sector. He was unperturbed as he felt that it’s the quality of the experience that matters more for tourists who will be prepared to pay.

He also felt that whilst tourism is important he needs to protect Bhutan’s pristine quality of life for the benefit of the people.

Bhutan has steadfastly pursued a path of growth that is different from many developing countries striking to keep a balance between economic development and the social well-being of its people.

All the best to the Kingdom and its people."
