Our final feature for the day is Leonardo Newman!

Leo is a Bahamian filmmaker, known for his incredible cinematography and colour grading, mainly seen on TVC's for the Doctor's Hospital, International Campaigns and his passion projects like "Waiting" & "Look Up Child".

Leo's work continues to make waves in the Bahamian Film Industry, and inspires us all. We celebrate you!

In honour of our country's recent celebration of 51 years of independence, we're featuring the remarkable Bahamian talent shaping our film industry.

First Up - Neville Aubrey Smith, an acclaimed Bahamian filmmaker whose work includes the captivating docuseries "Those From Shallow Waters", and the impactful "Marco Archer Documentary."

With a background in Cinematography, Neville's expertise has led him on sets like ABC's Good Morning America, and much more.

Neville is a strong believer in collaboration and continues to uplift the growing Film Industry in the Bahamas through his film company Settlers Cove Productions.

Thank you, Neville, for your invaluable contributions!

FUN FACT: Did you know that the three main components to a 3Point lighting system for interviews or 'talking heads' are the back light, fill light and key light?

• The key light is the main source of light, which typically shines directly on one side of the interviewee’s face.

• The fill, which is placed on the opposite side of the key light, is used to either remove or add light to the fill side of your shot. In this particular shot, our director wanted to remove light from the left side of the interviewee’s face to increase the contrast.

• And finally, while we did add some backlight to this shot, the eye light was equally important as it enhanced our interviewee's eyes. 😉

Our filmmaking community is growing on Grand Bahama Island!

From aspiring to veteran filmmakers & actors, last month's Culture Film Fest showed a promise of a bright future for the Filmmaking community of Grand Bahama.

Many thanks to Moya Thompson for bringing the Film Fest to GBI, and Michael Pateman & the Bahamas Maritime Museum for hosting!! We are honoured to have partnered with you both on what we believe is only the beginning of many more collaborative efforts that will help to strengthen and grow the filmmaking industry in Grand Bahama and the Bahamas at large.

Stay tuned to the Ministry of Youth Sports & Culture's pages to see some of the final projects that were created for this two-day event on Grand Bahama!

Our team was thrilled to be joined by local filmmakers and film enthusiasts for an 8-hour filmmaking competition!!

This labour day, we want to teach you a new film term - 'Blocking'.

Blocking plays a major role in successful directing, where the director choreographs the movement of the actors, extras, action, and camera movements for a scene.
