New Podcast Alert!!!

You can tune into Guardian Talk Radio 96.9 FM on Saturday's at 11 AM.

In this episode we discussed the announcement made by the Prime Minister The Hon. Philip Davis regarding an increase in minimum wage. The minimum wage currently stands at $210 per week and the government wants to raise that to $260 per week. The last minimum wage increase in the country happened in 2015.

Amidst high gas prices and extreme inflation as a result of the Ukrainian and Russian war as well as the coronavirus pandemic many Bahamians have been suffering. Davis' answer was an increase in pay, although it is still not a livable wage it is a start he says. To date there has been no long term comprehensive plan presented to the public to help continuously offset the gap between wages and the cost of living. Increasing wages every few years is not enough.

Suggestion:

The government can hire researchers to study the average influx of inflation yearly and then the government should raise wage by the average percentage. For instance, if the cost of living increases by 2% every year, raise the minimum wage by 2 % the following year so that the wages can stay fairly close to the cost of living. But that's just a thought...let us know your thoughts.

Teachers will receive a 15% raise over the period of three years along with medical upgrades which now include dental and vision assistance; as well as stipends and housing accommodations for those teachers who live in the outer islands.

In addition, there has been a development regarding the marital r**e bill. The draft bill aims to redefine the term r**e and outlines more clearly the constraints of r**e. We dive deep into the issues surrounding groping, molesting, r**e, and s*xual indecency in The Bahamas. With great sadness, I announce that two of our hosts and one guest host have left during the time we have been absent from social media. We have spent this time trying to find another host and to continue creating content for you guys.

We would like to thank one of our founders Anyze Bell for her amazing ideas that helped Candid become what it is today. We spent many nights editing, creating content, and just brainstorming to come up with new ideas. We appreciate her persistence and dedication to the show over the last year.

Our guest co-host Jade Russell has been with us for a short time but we still appreciated her contributions to the show's flow.

Lastly, we would like to thank Bethany McHardy for her time spent with us over the last year. She has never been afraid to speak her mind despite what other might say and we appreciate her being candid with us. Her insight normally stirred the pot but she always kept the conversation going.

We here at Candid have had an amazing time here with you. We wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavors. It has been a pleasure to work with you all.

In this week's episode, we discussed violence against men. We specifically mention the Johnny Depp case of domestic violence against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Many times, men do not speak up about the abuse they endure, and we want to shed light on it and hopefully remove the stigma surrounding it.

If you or anyone you know is being abused, please contact The Bahamas Crisis Center at (242) 328-0922.

In this episode of Candid, we discuss domestic violence among women. We talk about why women may stay, how it affects children in the home, and how to hopefully move on. We referenced recent tragedies of women who got away but, unfortunately, were killed by their abusers. We also discussed what the system could have done to protect women like Heavenly, who was shot in front of her one-month-old son by her ex-fiance, or Carissa Culmer, who was murdered by her boyfriend.

If you or someone you know is a victim of domestic violence, please contact The Bahamas Crisis Center at (242) 328-0922.
