BOTSWANA’S POPULATION GROWTH COULD BE WORRYING 🇧🇼

Botswana newly released population statistics of the 2022 census have shown a mere total increase of 15% in a period of 10 years.

As at now the population stands at 2.3 million far below the projected growth.

Statistics Botswana have pushed the blame to low birth rates and rising low fertility rates.

The country has one of the lowest birth rates in Africa with women having an average of 2 kids.

Some of its neighboring countries have more than doubled their population in the past decades like Zimbabwe

Even some low population countries like Lesotho and Namibia now having surpassed Botswana in population growth.

Boxing legend FloydMayweather is planning to establish a boxing academy in Nigeria.

According to the fighter, "the ultimate plan is to find the next Mayweather."

Mayweather visited the Nigerian capital Abuja this week and discussed his plans with the country's Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

Will he be able to unlock Nigeria's boxing potential and find the new Mayweather?

The boxer was undefeated in the ring in his boxing career, and now the American is keen to take on a different challenge in Africa's most populous country.

The 45-year-old, now a boxing promoter after a successful 21-year professional career, is planning to establish a boxing academy in Nigeria to train young fighters.

He is a former five-weight world champion from super-featherweight to light-middleweight.

Focus on Chinua Achebe

The 🇳🇬nigerian novelist wrote his first novel book "Things Fall Apart" in 1958 (exactly a year after the independence of neighbouring country Ghana) at the age of 28, which has sold over 20 million copies and has been translated to over 50 languages.

The book was ranked as one of the Greatest Books Ever Written in a list by Encyclopedia Brittanica in 2018.

was on number 5 on BBC's 100 Stories That Shaped The World.

It was also among the 100 books that were featured on the TV series, The Great American Read.

In 2011, Chinua Achebe forced 50 Cent to rename his forthcoming new movie "Things Fall Apart". He was contacted by Achebe's legal team that he couldn't use the title.

Even when he offered Achebe $1 million dollars, Achebe felt insulted and rejected the money. 50 Cent later re-named his movie "All Things Fall Apart".

Sad News

DR Congo international Jody Lukoki has died at the age of 29.

He began his senior career at Dutch giants Ajax, and also had spells at PEC Zwolle, Bulgarian club Ludogorets and Turkish outfit Yeni Malatyaspor, and was most recently on the books of Dutch side FC Twente.

The cause of Lukoki's death is not yet known.

Lukoki represented the Netherlands at youth level but made his senior international debut for DR Congo in 2015.

Sad News

8 African miners have been trapped more than 500 meters below in a zinc mine operated by a Canadian company (Trevali Mining Corp) in Burkina Faso for the past 20 days.

Burkina Faso’s government has launched a judicial investigation into a flood at a zinc mine as efforts to rescue eight trapped workers enter a third week.

Heavy rainfall caused flash floods at the Perkoa mine on April 16, leaving eight workers – six from Burkina Faso, a Zambian and a Tanzanian – missing underground.

Burkina Faso Prime Minister Albert Ouedraogo said that managers of the mine have been banned from leaving the country while investigations are under way into the cause of the accident.

The miners' families have filed charges of attempted homicide, endangering life, and failing to aid a person in distress against the Canadian company.

Africa's most colorful cities.

1. Bo Kaap, Cape Town, South Africa

The neighborhood of Bo Kaap is featured in my list of the most colorful cities in the world. history has it that only freed slaves were allowed to paint their house in a bright color, and the entire neighborhood eventually turned into a rainbow of colors.

2. Chefchaouen, Morocco
Chefchouen is also one of the most colorful cities in the world, but not because of the myriad of colors, but because all the houses are painted a beautiful blue. This blue town, nicknamed the “Blue Pearl of Morocco,” lies at the edge of the Rif Mountains in the northwest of Morocco, and is a uniquely blue city.

3. Chamarel, Mauritius

Chamarel is a village in the southwest of Mauritius and It’s also famous for its landscape that attracts visitors with its natural beauty, its wildness (perfect for adventure sports and hiking), and the region called Seven Colored Earth. Seven Colored Earth is a GeoPark with some 600 million years of natural history and is famous for, the different hues the earth exhibits here (and it’s not all shades of brown).

4. Gorée Island, Dakar, Senegal

As so often happens, some of the most picturesque places in the world often hide a terrible history. Gorée Island, off the coast of Dakar in Senegal and the westernmost point of Africa, has a dark slave and colonial history, which is told in the House of Slaves. Due to Gorée’s strategic position as a trading post, the picturesque island with its prettily colored buildings has been fought over by the Europeans since the mid-1400s. The Portuguese, Dutch, English, and eventually the French all vied for control.

5. Pink Lake, Dakar, Senegal

Just down the road lies a superbly colorful spot: The Lac Rose, or “the pink lake.” Pink because of the bacteria that produces red pigment to absorb the sunlight, the lake also has a high salt content, up to 40 percent in places, which makes it comparable to the Dead Sea. During the dry season, it even exceeds the Dead Sea’s saltiness.

6. Antananarivo, Madagascar

Capital of the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar, Antananarivo is a suitable capital for an intriguing and diverse island. This capital does not just deserve an entry into the selection for most colorful places in Africa because of the eclectic and brightly colored houses that crowd the side of the hillsides, but also because Tana (as the capital is conveniently abbreviated to by locals) has managed to bring together the various tribes and ethnic groups of this large island and rule despite and because of the diverse mix.

7. Bathing Boxes, Muizenberg, South Africa

The small town of Muizenberg on the Western Cape in False Bay, some 16 miles from Cape Town, stretches between the mountains, a road following the bay, a small rail track, and the beach. What makes Muizenberg more famous than its little restaurants and bustling beach community are the bathing boxes, which are rather colorful.

8. Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia

White buildings set against the blue Mediterranean, shimmering in the sunlight, and with blue doors throughout, make it a photogenic and instantly relaxing location. The doors are the same blue as those Berber robes and are wooden, but enhanced by wrought-iron décor. Add green branches of Bougainvillea with pink flowers creeping on the houses and you have a colorful place that personifies the beauty of the Mediterranean.

9. Sal Rei, Boa Vista, Cape Verde

Cape Verde, or “the green cape,” is an independent archipelago of around 10 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, roughly 350 miles off the western African coast. Boa Vista, meaning “good view,” is the most easterly island, and its capital Sal Rei, home to half the population of the island (12,000 inhabitants), is a quiet little town. While surrounded by white beaches and the blue ocean, there is also a lovely colorful array of painted houses, particularly down Rua de Bom Sossego. The cobbled street is shaded by trees and lined with low-rise pastel-colored buildings that once again hark back to a colonial past.

African convict Thabo Bester, also known as the Facebook ra**st for using the social networking site to lure his victims, has been found dead in his prison cell, according to local media reports(SABC).

Previously he was convicted of ra**ng and robbing two aspiring models he had lured on Facebook

Bester was serving his sentence for the 2012 murder of a model.

Violence Against Muslims during Eid Mubarak.

Ethiopian security forces disclosed they have detained 76 people suspected of instigating violence on Monday against Muslims who had gathered in the capital, Addis Ababa.

Police used tear gas to disperse crowds during the incident but there were no reports of casualties.

Tens of thousands were attending Eid prayers in the city’s main stadium when violence broke out.

The incident came after days of growing tension between Muslims and Christians in parts of the country after 20 Muslims were killed while attending a funeral last week in the northern part of the country.

🇬🇭Ghana is set to start the payment of the "most controversial tax" in the history of the country.

The implementation of the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-levy) has kicked off today, May 1st 2022.

This means from today a rate of 1.5% will be imposed on all electronic transactions above GH¢100.00. The E-Levy rollout comes in accordance with the controversial passage of the bill on 29th March 2022 with H.E Nana Addo assenting it on 31st March.

The Central African Republic (CAR) has become the second (the first being El Salvador) country to approve Bitcoin as legal tender.

CAR is rich in diamonds, gold and uranium but it's suddenly counted among world's poorest countries

It has been wracked by conflict for decades and is a close Russian ally, with mercenaries from the Wagner Group helping fight rebel forces.

Lawmakers voted unanimously to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender, said a statement from the CAR presidency.

The move is believed to puts CAR on the map of the world's boldest and most visionary countries.
