Family Bids Emotional Farewell to Beloved Car

A family in Gujarat, India recently honoured their 12-year-old car, a Maruti Wagon R, with an elaborate farewell ceremony. The event, which took place on their farm in Amreli district, was attended by over 1,500 people and involved a burial ritual costing INR 4 lakh ( USD 4740). The vehicle, adorned with marigold garlands and rose petals, was lowered into a 15-foot-deep pit.

The car’s owner, Sanjay Polara, shared that the Wagon R held a special place in the family’s heart, bringing them prosperity and social respect over the years. Rather than scrapping the vehicle, Polara decided to give it a "samadhi" as a tribute, planning to plant a tree at the burial site to keep the memory alive for future generations.

Polara, who also extended invites to around 1,500 people, described the vehicle as "lucky," attributing his family’s business success and social standing to the car’s presence. The farewell included traditional rituals performed by religious figures, while professional videographers documented the event, making the ceremony one of the most unusual send-offs for a car in the region.
