Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu Celebrates South East Development Bill

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Kalu, praised the signing of the South East Development Bill into law.

Sponsored by Kalu and other southeast lawmakers, the bill establishes a commission to manage funds for reconstructing infrastructure damaged by the civil war and addressing ecological challenges in Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi.Kalu, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Mr. Levinus Nwabughiogu, thanked President Tinubu, his colleagues, and all Nigerians for their support.

He assured the Ndi Igbo of continued positive attention from the President.

THE BRIEF ANCIENT STORY OF THE HAITIANS RELATING TO THE BIAFRANS( IGBO)

The story of the Igbo people's connection to Haiti is often linked to the legend of the Igbo Landing.

This event is a significant part of the African diaspora history and Haitian folklore.

In 1803, During the transatlantic slave trade, a group of Igbo captives from present-day Nigeria was brought to the Americas on a slave ship.
They were sold to plantation owners in the United States, but while being transported, they managed to overpower their captors and take control of the ship.

The ship ran aground near St. Simons Island, Georgia, in a place now known as IGBO LANDING.

According to the legend, rather than submit to a life of enslavement from the french, the Igbo captives decided to walk into the waters of Dunbar Creek, singing in their native language, and drowned themselves.

This act of mass su***de was a powerful statement of resistance and has since become a symbol of defiance against oppression.

The Igbo Landing story resonated deeply with the enslaved Africans and their descendants in Haiti who were also enduring brutal conditions under French colonial rule.
The Haitian Revolution (1791-1804), which led to Haiti's independence, was fueled by similar acts of resistance and resilience among enslaved Africans spirit of the Igbo Landing influenced Haitian culture.

The spirit of the Igbo Landing influenced Haitian culture, inspiring stories of resistance and the determination to fight for freedom.

In Haitian Vodou and folklore, the Igbo people and their spirit of resistance are honored and remembered.

The Igbo Landing has become a powerful symbol of the African diaspora's enduring struggle for freedom and dignity across the Americans.
