Having been immersed in news, conversations, and deep emotions stemming from recent events in Israel, it's with humility that we announce the following.

Award of $520,000 in Grants from Templeton Religion Trust Fuels Global Documentary Film Series Exploring Muslim and Jewish Religious Thinkers.

[Seattle, WA] - In an exciting development for global documentary filmmaking, the film production company UNTAMED has been awarded two grants totaling $520,000 from the Templeton Religion Trust.

These grants are a catalyst for two global film series, offering a deep dive into the lives and work of five Muslim and five Jewish religious thinkers.

The films will expand upon the existing "AT THE THRESHOLD" film series on Christian theologians at www.atthethreshold.com.

This growing series of films aims to foster mutual respect, promote interfaith understanding, and ultimately contribute to building bridges among diverse communities worldwide.

Visually immersive, poetic, and global in scale, AT THE THRESHOLD invites viewers into a conversation about life and its limits which is as vibrant as it is challenging. Each film is an intimate and revelatory glimpse into the private and public experiences of some of the world's most widely respected scholars and religious thinkers, harmonizing their influential work with the deeply personal experiences that have shaped who they are and what they care about most deeply.

Founded by Sean Dimond and John Harrison, UNTAMED is an international documentary production company that produces human-centered and emotionally true documentaries. They pursue stories of spiritual and narrative depth with a bias for hope, risk, and redemption.

The Templeton Religion Trust's generous funding represents a significant step forward in the journey toward a more interconnected, empathetic, and engaged global society.

We’ve waited a long time to announce this.

John Harrison and I at UNTAMED have been working quietly and patiently for the past 4 years on our own feature documentary, called UNTIL THE TRUTH.

You can view the extended trailer here: www.untilthetruth.com

This story is about the long, hard-fought journey of recovery from s*xual, psychological, and religious abuse that occurred within the religious organization IBLP--one of the most historically influential evangelical organizations in America.

The stories of powerful men preying upon women are everywhere. Other than the survivors themselves, very few ask the question — what happens after the abuse? This film is more than just an exposé of horrible things done—it is an unflinching, intimate story that puts the realities of abuse into a larger context, focusing on the architecture of recovery and asking — is healing possible?

In addition to the survivors whose stories we focus on, the film also includes Rachael Denhollander, Kristin du Mez, and Dan Allender.

We've self-funded the film to date, in order to ensure a trauma-informed production process, and we are now launching a finishing-funds donation campaign to bring the production to completion.

We believe this film will help others caught in abuse, and will create deeper connection, understanding, and empathy around an issue that continues to affect all of American society.

The women in this story are extraordinary, and their story deserves to be seen widely.

Announcing UNTAMED’s newest series: AT THE THRESHOLD - Theology on Film.
Theology offers a home for the vast and the intimate. No question is foreclosed. Visually immersive, poetic, and global in scale, these narrative and theological short films invite viewers into a conversation about life and its limits which is as vibrant as it is challenging.
.
This series isn't about promoting theological ideas we necessarily agree with, but rather we are exploring the connections between vulnerable life, big questions, and the diversity of theological work being done today.
It's not that we are on the threshold of discovering God, but that perhaps God is already on the threshold of our lives, knocking to enter through our wounds, deepest desires, and questions.
Made possible by a grant from the Templeton Religion Trust.

We were taken in by the fishers of Ebenhaezer—a people whose identity and spirituality has been shaped by the sea, the estuary, the river. They taught us about faith, and one love. We’ll be working on this film through 2023.

We are filming the second iteration of our AT THE THRESHOLD series, exploring theology and theologians from around the world. Here in Africa we are focused on grounded theology—where the theological issues are informed by the real lives, concerns, and narratives of a community. This first day was focused on a strip of coastline in Nigeria, where Christians, Muslims, and the Traditional indigenous share the sea as a space of worship. They all cooperate together, giving space and time to one another; they all see the sea as a powerful spiritual context; and they all offer prayers. As a pastor of (the christian group) the Celestials said, “God is a God of love, and we all seek to serve Him.” In many places in Africa, the indigenous cosmology, their hermeneutic, does not allow them to think of a single (exclusivist) deity without erasing a profound part of their identity. This is something (late) western evangelical missionaries missed in their attempts to eradicate traditional culture.

Want to see something just plain cool, and inspiring? We just finished one of our favorite Faith & Co stories from this past year.

Cxffee Black is a pseudo-Marxist Christian hip-hop coffee collective, in Memphis, ‘making coffee black again’, by recovering it’s original East African roots (before it was stolen and expanded via colonization).

These guys are amazing. It’s a cool film. You'll also learn about the history of coffee, and one response to George Floyd. Watch it!

We are thrilled to announce that our short documentary, WHEN GOD ROARS, has won the international SIMA 2022 IMPACT JURY PRIZE.

WHEN GOD ROARS is a story of courage, recovery, and the long-term restoration of s*x trafficking survivors. Set in Cebu City, Philippines, a global epicenter for human s*xual exploitation, the story shows how being rescued from s*x trafficking is just the very first step, as survivors need a long-term context to build back identity, and essential human dignity. We produced this film for SPU's Faith & Co series.

SIMA Awards started as the first and only international media competition honoring achievements in the creative, human rights and humanitarian fields. Films are submitted from 140 countries, with screenings co-hosted by organizations such as Human Rights Watch, Impact Hub (Global Network), and United Nations Women.

We’re thrilled to be a part of this global community working hard to advance global awareness, social justice, human rights and education.
