LUMS & GCU alumna, Maheen Hassan tops the CSS in her 3rd attempt!

For aspirants, here is everything you want to know about the CSS 2020 Topper:

Maheen Hassan is the topper of CSS 2020. She is being allocated in the Pakistan Administrative Services (PAS).

She did her bachelor’s in Economics and Politics from LUMS. Later, she did her M.Phil. in Political Science from GCU.

She has attempted the CSS three times and qualified every time.

This was her third attempt.

She qualified her first attempt and was allocated in the Inland Revenue Services (IRS). She has 7 plus years of experience in the civil services. She is an 18-grade officer.

Her optional subjects are:

1) Accounting
2) Business Administration
3) Applied Mathematics
4) Statistics
5) Mercantile Law

Mentor: Her father, a former CSP, who is a senior faculty member at the World Times Institute.

Lastly, her father and uncle are retired CSPs. Her sister is also in the services.

Faizan Jattak, aged around 22, was killed in Quetta after officials of the Eagle Squad of Balochistan Police allegedly opened fire on his car.

Although an FIR has been lodged, notice has been taken, and an inquiry being ordered, it is never a solution to the continued extrajudicial murders and fake encounters.

Unfortunately, the government only tries to satisfy the aggrieved families in such incidents rather than taking long term decisions.

The most it does is to suspend the irresponsible officers and arrest the involved ones. However, their positions are being restored and the culprits are being freed once the issue gets cooled down.

This is how justice is done in this country!

The long-term solution is to bring police reforms. Unless the public representatives are serious in bringing police reforms in this country, such incidents will not stop.

In Balochistan, the locals have been in favour of authorizing the police and ending the FC check posts within the cities because of the humiliation they face. However, such incidents assure them that no one is their protector and saviour.

Disappointed at the performance of the police, they have no hopes left.

Today marks the 23rd death anniversary of Legendary Pakistani qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

He was born on October 13, 1948 in Faisalabad. His father Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, was a musicologist, vocalist, instrumentalist, and qawwal.

He sang mainly in Urdu and Punjabi and occasionally in Persian, Brajbhasha and Hindi.

The music legend was celebrated in several countries for breaking barriers of language, nationality, and musical genres.

The King of Qawwali lost his battle with lung cancer on August 16, 1997. On this day, some newspapers reported “The day, the music died,” but his voice will never die.

In case you are curious about the Google Doodle for today, the illustration shows the Khojak Tunnel, one of the country’s oldest and longest underpasses.

The 3.9km tunnel was constructed between 1888 to 1891. The railway track that goes through Quetta crosses the Khojak Tunnel and goes all the way to the Pakistan-Afghan border town of Chaman, according to Google.
