Here are the 2 winners of the polls (facebook + twitter + instagram + discord) Number 1 was the Nothosaurus and Number 2 was the Anomalocaris! I know that the anomalocaris isn't an actual dinosaur, it's a prehistoric shrimp, but I did like the design and in the prehistoric ages there where more animals beside our well known dinosaurs!😅

[NL ⬇] A Q&A with two game designing friends.
You might remember the videos I recently made of "Dino Dino", from Bannan. It's live on Kickstarter right now, ready to get funded with your help.
The game was concocted by Beau Vankemenade and Sander Ambroos, two friends who have their own company with third partner Jonathan. I cornered them to get some answers to a few questions:
WHO ARE YOU?
Beau: I'm Beau Vankemade, 1/3rd of Business Goose. We make video games and board games, and other forms of play. When I'm not making games, I spend a lot of time playing them. I have a nice collection, by now (research material). We have a group we meet up with fairly often. Our third Goose Jonathan is also a huge DnD fan, so Sander and I joined him in that world.
Sander: I'm Sander Ambroos, also 1/3 Business Goose Studios! Outside of making games I keep myself busy with several hobbies like Scouts, and retro video games and board games.
WHAT WAS THE FIRST SPARK THAT INSPIRED "DINO DINO"?
Beau/Sander: We had been wanting to make a board game for a long time, we were already talking about it when we were in college together. And it had to be dino-themed, no idea why we insisted on that! One day, I saw a review of "Café" in which that game was being dissected, and they mentioned that the mechanism of overlapping cards was a rarely used one that had many untapped possibilities. That was our starting point, because we thought that was a cool mechanism.
WHAT IS YOUR SPECIFIC CONTRIBUTION TO THE DESIGN OF "DINO DINO"?
Beau: Designing the game was a sort of pingpong match between Sander and me, in which things needed to be tried and tested constantly. I was in charge of the visual style. Jonathan didn't have a direct part in making the game, but he was involved in balancing and play-testing because his DnD sessions often involved numbers and values.
Sander: The visual part is all Beau! But designing it is as Beau said, a fully shared experience.
HOW DID YOU END UP AT PUBLISHER BANNAN GAMES?
Beau/Sander: We often visit our local board game store Oberonn in Hasselt (Belgium). We know the owner fairly well. We had presented "Dino Dino" to him, and he was very enthousiastic about it. Shortly after he informed us the representative of Geronimo Games was going to drop by to show some new games. He told us to make sure we'd be there and present the game to [Vladimir]. We ended up playing the game with Vladimir, and he was very enthusiastic and saw the potential. He gave us the contact information of a few publishers affiliated with them, and advised us to go for Bannan Games. We took it, and e-mailed them!
WHAT ABOUT "DINO DINO" DO YOU LIKE THE MOST?
Beau: The puzzle aspect; every game is different. It's hard to get the same optimal result every time. When you finally do get a nice area with a good amount of dinosaurs, I think: yeah, I played it right this time. And it features some of my favourite own dino designs! I can't show all of them, YET.
Sander: I also enjoy that puzzle element the most. There's a clear difference between an area of someone who planned out all the food icons and the dino's, and someone who just placed them randomly. It's quite satisfying to have that single food icon score points for 3 separate dino's!
WHAT TYPE OF GAME DO YOU ENJOY THE MOST?
Beau: Touch choice, I was asked the same question recently. Right now the list of my all time favourite games is: 1. Root (art, game play, theme, asymmetry - love it!), 2. Shards of Infinity (love deckbuilding games, and this one is amazing), and 3. Living Forest, I though that was one of the best games I purchased in 2021. Again deckbuilding, though. Maybe we'll make our own deckbuilder in the future.
Sander: I enjoy playing Phil Walker-Harding games (Bärenpark, Llamaland, Gingerbread House). Puzzle games have always been my favourite. I also have Everdell and Honey Buzz in my top 5.

Je herinnert je misschien nog de video's die ik onlangs heb gemaakt van "Dino Dino", van Bannan Games. Het is nu live op Kickstarter, klaar om gerealiseerd te worden met jouw hulp.
Het spel is bedacht door Beau Vankemenade en Sander Ambroos, twee vrienden die hun eigen bedrijf hebben samen met derde partner Jonathan. Ik dreef ze in een hoekje om even wat antwoorden op wat vragen te krijgen:
WIE BEN JE?
Beau: Ik ben Beau Vankemenade, 1/3de van Business Goose. We maken video en boardgames en ook andere vormen van play. Wat ik naast m'n uren doe als ik geen spellen maak dan spendeer ik wel wat tijd om ze te spelen. Ik heb ondertussen al best een leuke collectie. (Research materiaal 😉 ) We hebben een groepje waarmee we redelijk vaak afspreken. Onze 3de gans is ook een giga DnD fan en daar zijn Sander en ik ook mee in gestapt in zijn wereld.
Sander: Ik ben Sander Ambroos en ook 1/3 van Business Goose Studios! Buiten het maken van games ben ik met verschillende andere hobby's bezig zoals Scouts, Retro Video Games & Board games!
WAT WAS DE VONK DIE DE INSPIRATIE VOOR "DINO DINO" WAS?
Beau/Sander: We wilden al lang een bordspel samen maken, sinds dat we studeerde zeiden we dat al. En het moest Dino themed zijn, geen idee waarom we dat wilden! Op een dag zag ik een review van Café die het spel aan het ontleden was en zei dat die mechanic van kaarten overlappen niet heel veel gebruikt werd en dat er nog veel in mogelijk was. We zijn dan daaruit vertrokken omdat ik die mechanic best cool vond.
IS ER IETS DAT SPECIFIEK JOUW BIJDRAGE AAN "DINO DINO" IS?
Beau: Game Design is een soort pingpong match tussen Sander en mij waarin we continu zaken aftoetsten en hebben uitgetest. De visuele stijl heb ik volledig gemaakt. Jonathan heeft niet direct aan het design mee gewerkt. Maar naar balancering en playtesting toe hebben we hem daarbij getrokken. Aangezien hij bij zijn DnD sessions ook veel met nummers en waardes bezig is.
Sander: Het visuele deel is volledig aan Beau te danken! Qua Game Design was het inderdaad een volledige shared experience!
HOE KWAM JULLIE SPEL BIJ BANNAN GAMES TERECHT?
Beau/Sander: We komen vaak bij onze lokale bordspellen winkel de Oberonn in Hasselt. De eigenaar hiervan kennen we redelijk goed. We hadden hem Dino Dino voorgelegd en hij was super enthousiast over het spel. Een tijdje later zei hij dat zijn vertegenwoordiger van Geronimo games langs kwam om de nieuwe games voor te stellen. Hij zei zie dat je hier bent en leg het [Vladimir] voor. We hebben dan met Vladimir het spel gespeeld en die was ook mega enthousiast en zag potentie. Dan had hij ons wat publishers doorgegeven die onder hun zitten en hij raadde ons Bannan aan en dan hebben we ze gemaild! 🙂
WAT AAN "DINO DINO" VIND JE ZELF HET LEUKST?
Beau: Het puzzle aspect, elk spel is anders. Het is moeilijk om altijd alles zo optimaal mogelijk te leggen. Als je dan uiteindelijk een mooi veldje hebt met een goed aantal dinosaurussen dan denk ik ja ik heb het goed gespeeld. Ik heb natuurlijk ook m'n favorieten dino designs er tussen zitten! 😃 Sommige daarvan kan ik helaas NOG niet laten zien! 😉
Sander: Het leukste vind ik het puzzel element. Er is duidelijk een verschil tussen de velden van iemand die zijn voedsel iconen en dino's ingepland heeft en iemand die deze gewoon random neergelegd heeft! Het is heel satisfying om dat ene voedsel icoon te laten scoren met 3 verschillende dino's!
WAT IS JOUW FAVORIETE TYPE SPEL?
Beau: Moeilijke keuze, heb die vraag recent nog eens gekregen! Wat daar momenteel in de lijst van staat zijn sowiesie al 2 van mijn all time favorites, 1 Root (Art, gameplay, theme, de asynchrone gameplay vind ik zalig!), 2 Shards of infinity (Love deckbuilding games en deze is echt geweldig) en 3 Living Forest vond ik 1 van de beste games die ik in 2021 heb gekocht. Wederom deckbuilding though! Misschien in de toekomst onze eigen deckbuilder maken! 😉
Sander: Ik speel zelf heel graag spellen van Phil Walker-Harding (Berenpark, Lamaland, Gingerbread house,...)! Puzzel games zijn altijd wel een favoriet geweest van mij! Verder staan in mijn top 5 ook nog Everdell en Honey Buzz!
