Ill. Teen Arrested for Allegedly Using Photos of Ex-Girlfriend to Lure, Rob and Kill Male Victim

Officials say the victim, Devondrey Cummings, went to a Chicago alleyway, thinking he was meeting a woman for s*x

Authorities in Illinois have filed criminal charges against a teen suspected in the January 2020 robbery and murder of a 26-year-old man in Chicago.

Keon Rodgers, 19, is charged with first-degree murder for killing Devondrey Cummings, according to online records accessed by PEOPLE.

Rodgers is being held on $1 million bond.

It was unclear Tuesday if he had retained legal counsel or entered pleas to the murder charge.

The Chicago Tribune was present for his bail hearing, where prosecutors detailed their case against Rodgers.

Prosecutors alleged Rodgers, who was 18 at the time of the murder, lured Cummings to an alleyway using pictures of Rodgers' ex-girlfriend.

According to the Tribune, Cummings was a victim of catfishing - when a person pretends to be someone else on social media, often with bad intentions.

Rodgers allegedly created a fake social media profile utilizing his ex's photos, and then seduced Cummings, eventually convincing him to meet up for a s*xual liaison.

Cummings arrived, the paper reports, and was fatally shot - allegedly by Rodgers and two teenage accomplices, who remain at large.

Prosecutors said in court that an eyewitness recognized Rodgers, which led investigators to comb through his Facebook posts.

Rodgers, the paper reports, had posted a photo of himself with the other suspects on the day of the murder - wearing the same clothing seen on the shooters in surveillance footage of the killing.

There were also messages between Cummings and the person behind the fake profile, discussing the Jan. 2, 2020, meetup.

According to prosecutors, Rodgers has denied shooting Cummings, instead blaming one of the two alleged teen accomplices.

Officials said Rodgers insists he acted only as the lookout for the two teens, claiming they set everything up.

Young Mom and Dad Are Dragged from Car and Killed After Minor Accident in Shooting Caught on Video

Two small children in Chicago are now orphans after their parents were dragged from their car Saturday night and shot execution-style in a brazen attack that was videotaped by an eyewitness.

Yasmin Perez, 25, died in a hospital on Tuesday - days after her the death of her boyfriend of many years, 24-year-old Gyovanny Arzuaga.

Arzuaga, according to Chicago Police, was pronounced dead on Saturday, moments after arriving at a hospital for treatment after the attack.

As of Wednesday, there had been no arrests in the case.

Investigators said the couple were driving in Humboldt Park following the city's Puerto Rican Day Parade when they were involved in a minor car accident.

Video captured by a witness that was shared on social media shows a group of men besiege the vehicle at around 9 p.m., pulling Perez onto the street, where they beat her. She was then shot in the neck.

Arzuaga, who had also been dragged from the car, tried to shield Perez from the attackers, and was shot in the head, according to police.

Next, the video shows the group of men scatter, leaving the injured couple lying motionless in the street.

According to the couple's friend, Jae Pacheco, the couple fell in love after meeting at a party.

"It was love at first sight," Pacheco told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I thought it was so cute. They first met each other at a party, and it was over with from there. They fell in love with each other, and they spent years together. They made a family together."

Pacheco said Perez was a devoted mother to her two children, Sofiya and Jayden.

This Friday, Jayden turns 1, she said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched online to help cover the couple's funeral costs.

Missing N.J. Mom Abducted Along with Son in AMBER Alert Case Is Found Dead in Tennessee

A missing N.J. mom was found dead Saturday in Tennessee hours after police located her 2-year-old son, who had been the subject of an AMBER Alert, and arrested the boy's father in his alleged abduction.

Yasemin Uyar, 24, and her son, Sebastian Rios, both of Rahway, N.J., were reported missing Friday after the boy was not dropped off at his daycare and his mother failed to show up at work, Union County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady said in a news release.

The two were believed to have been abducted by Sebastian's father, Tyler Rios, 27, of Highland Park, N.J., earlier that same day, according to an AMBER Alert for the child posted by New Jersey State Police.

Sebastian was found unharmed with his father in Monterey, Tenn., early Saturday, and Rios was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Later in the day, investigators discovered Uyar's body in a wooded area nearby, off of I-40. Authorities did not immediately say how the body was located or reveal a possible cause of death.

Before that discovery was confirmed, friends of the young mother gathered Saturday at a church to pray for her safe return.

A friend of the victim, Robyn Morris, said Uyar had obtained a restraining order against Rios.

"Typical textbook case of domestic violence," Morris said, reports CBS New York. "Progressively got worse and this is where it's ending."

Police said Rios faces charges of first-degree kidnapping in connection with the child's alleged abduction, and that additional criminal charges in connection with the death of Uyar are pending.

It was not immediately clear if Rios had an attorney to speak on his behalf. He remained jailed in Tennessee pending his extradition back to New Jersey.

According to the State Police, a conviction on first-degree kidnapping charges is commonly punishable by a sentence of 15 to 30 years in prison.

Uber Driver Is Stabbed to Death in California, Suspect Seen Fleeing from Car Is 17-Year-Old Girl

A teenage girl is in custody on suspicion of murder after a San Diego-area Uber driver was stabbed to death in her vehicle last week.

Around 3 p.m. Tuesday, a 911 caller said they had witnessed a woman being attacked inside her vehicle in National City, Calif., KSWB reports. When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman unresponsive.

The victim has since been identified by Uber as 58-year-old Raquel Spohn Wehber, an Uber employee based in the San Diego–Tijuana region.

While a motive for the alleged attack is not yet known, witness accounts led investigators to the arrest of a 17-year-old Uber passenger seen fleeing from the crime scene, KSWB, KNSD and WBTS report.

The suspect's identity remains confidential due to her age, but an arraignment held virtually in juvenile court Friday indicates she is being charged with two felony counts — one for murder and one for torture, the San Diego County District Attorney's Office tells PEOPLE. She has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

A prosecutor on the case allegedly told KNSD that they will ask the judge to transfer the suspect to adult court based on the nature of the allegations.

As authorities continue to search for a possible relationship between Spohn Wehber and the suspect, the victim's loved ones are mourning their loss.

"Raquel was the glue of our family," one of Spohn Wehber's daughters, Daniela, wrote in a GoFundMe campaign established to get her family back on their feet. "She was filled with laughter, lived life by her own terms and always managed to make friends wherever she went. She lived life with joy and loved the time spent with her family. She will be forever missed."

According to the fundraiser, Spohn Wehber leaves behind two daughters and two young grandsons.

"While my sister and I are appreciative of all the memories shared with my Mom, my nephews will never get to experience the greatness of my Mom," Daniela wrote. "They were robbed of that opportunity when my Mom was murdered."

Uber issued a statement to PEOPLE, saying, "The senseless and brutal crime that took the life of Raquel Spohn Wehber is heartbreaking and our thoughts are with her family. We stand ready to work with law enforcement on their investigation."

KSWB reports that as of Thursday, the National City Police Department was in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the Uber account used during the attack.
