NOTHING IS EVER AS RANDOM AS IT LOOKS
By: Fred Snorton
One thing Americans have perfected—better than anyone else—is turning seemingly ordinary moments into profit. The current African tour of internet star IShowSpeed demonstrates the model clearly. Many viewers insist everything happening around him is authentic and unplanned. Thunderbird disagrees.
Begin with the obvious: travel is expensive. Moving across multiple African countries with security, logistics, accommodations, and a support crew is not something a “free-spirited traveler” casually finances out of pocket. Even by U.S. standards the price tag destroys any notion of a spontaneous youth backpacking across the continent for leisure. Thunderbird strongly suspects an unseen sponsor bankrolling the operation.
Which raises the fundamental question: who benefits, and for what purpose?
Upon observation, it appears that the individual financing this tour is leveraging the young influencer's extensive reach, charisma, and global audience. His involvement serves not merely as entertainment but as a strategic asset for brand access, facilitating deal-making and conducting market testing.
This is why his itinerary feels designed rather than improvised. Every city visit, every brief encounter, every “unexpected” moment shows convenient timing. In Zimbabwe, he praises a young woman’s natural hair on camera. In Botswana, he stumbles upon a man who interacts creatively with his T-shirt. Charming coincidences—if one believes in such things.
Subsequently, Zambia becomes involved in the scenario. Among the various dining options available, he chooses to visit Hungry Lion. What prompts the selection of this specific establishment? Perhaps it is fate. Additionally, he consumes bottled water with the label meticulously aligned for optimal camera visibility. Those acquainted with branding understand that product placement rarely occurs without cost..
The Thunderbird's meeting with Slap Dee seems random but aligns with the need for a local influencer to redirect global attention, suggesting either a lucky accident or a calculated pairing.
Before this tour, Thunderbird had never bothered to pay attention to the boy. Ironically, it is the expertly packaged “randomness” surrounding his movements that now makes him difficult to ignore.
It's coincidence. if you like.
Thunderbird calls it strategy.
