Playing the closing set is a rewarding challenge.
You have to maintain the energy level or bring it up even higher and you're faced with a crowd that's dancing and grooving just a small step ahead of their physical tiredness. It's not a packed room anymore, and you are focusing extra hard as the sun begins to rise somewhere.
The closing set is also when the entire room vibes as one the most. It's when the crowd is at its most vulnerable, the lights are at their lowest, and the music is at its most exploratory. It's when every time there's a break in the track, people start screaming and cheering. It's when you're constantly reading the room to ensure they stay with you throughout the journey, and they do, and they don't want it to end.
To me, a closing set creates the most intimate DJ-crowd connection. In those final minutes, you give the crowd something special, something extra to take home.
