Get ready to witness a groundbreaking approach to sustainable construction! BRAC University's Department of Architecture, in collaboration with the School of Architecture and Design and the Social Impact Lab, presents "Earthy Expressions - A Distinctive Approach to Sustainability," a workshop on rammed earth construction.
Funded by the Open Society University Network (OSUN) Climate Education Grant, this innovative workshop combines traditional building methods with contemporary design, emphasizing environmental awareness.
Led by a team of expert faculty members, including Dr Zainab Faruqui Ali maam, Emmat Ara Khanam maam, Mohammad Zillur Rahman sir, Md Rakibul Hasan sir, and Upama Das Nitu maam, "Earthy Expressions" engages students and local artisans, fostering a unique connection between education, culture, and sustainability.
By utilizing locally sourced soil and eco-friendly additives, the project minimizes carbon emissions and promotes a deeper appreciation for the earth's resources. The resulting eco-friendly earthen seating not only showcases the skills of the participants but also exemplifies the university's commitment to sustainability.
According to soil experts, these earthen structures could last for thousands of years, highlighting the long-term benefits of this approach.
"Earthy Expressions" serves as a source of inspiration for students, architects, and the wider community, encouraging the adoption of sustainable and aesthetically pleasing designs while emphasizing the crucial role of such choices in mitigating the effects of climate change.
Join us in celebrating this remarkable initiative and the dedication of our faculty, students, and collaborators in redefining conventional construction practices and paving the way for a greener future!
