Roger Stone: 'Disgusted' judge jails Trump ally.Roger Stone, a long-time adviser and ally to US President Donald Trump, has been sentenced to 40 months in jail.

Stone, 67, was found guilty in November on seven counts of lying to Congress, obstruction and witness tampering.

Mr Trump responded by saying he would love to see Stone exonerated.

Stone is the sixth Trump aide convicted in a criminal case resulting from a justice department investigation that detailed Russian attempts to boost Mr Trump during the 2016 election.

What was Stone convicted of?
Stone was found guilty of lying to the House Intelligence Committee about his attempts to contact Wikileaks, the website that released damaging emails about Mr Trump's 2016 Democratic election rival Hillary Clinton.

US intelligence officials have concluded the messages were stolen by Russian hackers.

Stone will serve two years' probation after his custodial sentence. He has also been fined $20,000 (£15,500) and must serve 250 hours of community service.

He will not have to report to prison until the judge rules on a pending defence appeal.

London mosque stabbing: Man arrested after attacking worshipper while he prays.
A man has been arrested after stabbing a worshipper in the shoulder during late afternoon prayers at the London Central Mosque in Regents Park, police have confirmed.

Officers were called to the holy building in central London at 3.10pm to find the mosque’s muazzin – the person designated to lead and recite the call to prayer – had been stabbed.

The man, who is in his 70s, has since been taken to a major trauma centre where he is recovering from non life-threatening injuries.

A 29-year-old man, who police believe had been attending prayers, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently being held in custody at central London police station.

A statement from Scotland Yard said the incident was not being treated as terror-related at this time.

UK to close door to non-English speakers and unskilled workers
Britain is to close its borders to unskilled workers and those who can’t speak English as part of a fundamental overhaul of immigration laws that will end the era of cheap EU labour in factories, warehouses, hotels and restaurants.

Unveiling its Australian-style points system on Wednesday, the government will say it is grasping a unique opportunity to take “full control” of British borders “for the first time in decades” and eliminate the “distortion” caused by EU freedom of movement.

But industry leaders immediately accused the government of an assault on the economy warning of “disastrous” consequences with job losses and closures in factories and the high street.

Labour and the Liberal Democrats also condemned the plans while Unison, which represents health workers said they “spell absolute disaster for the care sector”.

An evacuation flight for Britons stuck on a cruise ship docked off the coast of Japan over coronavirus fears will leave Tokyo on Friday, Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said.

There were 78 British passengers on the cruise liner when cases of the coronavirus strain known as Covid-19 started to emerge. Four British cases have since been confirmed by the Foreign Office and two of the most high profile - Dave and Sally Abel - have made it to hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, two Japanese passengers from the coronavirus-hit cruise ship have died, public broadcaster NHK said on Thursday. The victims - a man and woman in their 80s - were the first fatalities from the outbreak on the vessel.
