আমার নাম আমলীগ। আমার বন্ধুর বাবা মারা যাওয়ার পর সে আমাকে বলল, "দোস্ত, আমি গ্রামে যাচ্ছি। এক মাসের জন্য বাড়িটা দেখে রাখিস।" আমি বললাম, "কোনো চিন্তা করিস না। সব ঠিক থাকবে।"

দেড় মাস পর, বন্ধু তার বাবার চল্লিশা শেষ করে বাড়ি ফিরল। ঘরে ঢুকেই ফ্রিজ, টিভি আর নতুন আসবাব দেখে সে অবাক হয়ে জিজ্ঞেস করল, "এসব কোথা থেকে এলো?" আমি গর্ব করে বললাম, "তোর বাক্সের টাকায় বাড়ির উন্নয়ন করেছি!"

বন্ধু চমকে উঠে বলল, "কী সর্বনাশ করলি?!" সে টাকার হিসাব মেলাতে গিয়ে দেখল, ১৮ লাখ টাকার মধ্যে জিনিসপত্র কেনার পরও ১৪ লাখ টাকা উধাও। সে রেগে গিয়ে বলল, "তুই চুরি করেছিস! এটা আমার কষ্টের টাকা ছিল।"
আমি রেগে গিয়ে বললাম, "চুরি নয়, উন্নয়ন করেছি। ফ্রিজ,টিভি, এসব কে দিয়েছে? আমি দিয়েছি।

বন্ধু কাঁদতে কাঁদতে বলল, "তোর চুরির টাকায় আরও অনেক কিছু করা যেত।" আমি জবাব দিলাম, "পারলে আমার মতো ফ্রিজ কিনে দেখা। আমি উন্নয়ন করেছি, আর তুই আমাকে চোর বলছিস? যদি তুই এত ভালো হোস, তাহলে এখন তুই বাড়ির দায়িত্ব নে। আর পারলে আরেকটা ফ্রিজ কিনে দেখা।

এক বৃদ্ধ লোক তার প্রিয় গরুটিকে জবাই করে আস্ত গরুর কাবাব তৈরি করলো। এরপর তার কন্যাকে ডেকে বললো-“আমাদের যত আত্মীয়স্বজন বন্ধুবান্ধব আছেন তাদেরকে দাওয়াত দাও, ডাকো। একসাথে বসে খানাপিনা করি"।
