Google may delete your Gmail account if you haven't logged in for at least two years as per a new policy announced by product manager Ruth Kricheli.
The previous policy, laid out in 2020, stated that Google may wipe data stored in accounts that have not been accessed in two years. Kricheli's blog post revealed that those accounts could now be entirely deleted.
The new policy will not go into effect until at least December of this year.
According to Kricheli, when the new policy goes into effect, the company will begin with accounts that were created and never touched again, as well as send "multiple notifications over the months leading up to deletion" to the address and any linked recovery email.
