Human-elephant conflicts (HEC) is the major challenge to agropastoral communities who resides within and around protected areas (PAs) in northern Tanzania. Efforts to abate HECs challenges has led communities to adopt a range of tradition elephant deterrence methods. Our study employed 156 household survey and 8 key informant interviews to identify determinants of HEC and assess the perceived effectiveness of the existing traditional mitigation measures in villages around the Enduimet Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Longido District, Northern Tanzania.

The green synthesis of silver nanoparticles has been proposed as an eco-friendly and cost-effective substitute for chemical and physical methods. The aim of this study was to synthesize and characterize silver nanoparticles using the peel extract of Citrus aurantium Bark, Leaf and Seed, and to determine the possible phytochemical constituents’ presence in the plant extracts that might be responsible for the synthesis.

The East African Camphorwood (Ocotea usambarensis) population in the montane forests of East Africa has experienced heavy logging. This logging can be attributed to both historical, legal and commercial harvesting of the species under colonial governments and subsequent illegal selective logging.

In order to characterize the snails sold and consumed by the population of Abidjan during the long dry season, a study was carried out to evaluate the physical characteristics and the quantity of meat provided by the snails found for sale on the markets of Abobo during the said season. To do this, sites selling live snails were inventoried and visited once a month. At each visit, 10 snails of different categories (juveniles, sub-adults and adults) found on sale at the markets were purchased and transported to the laboratory.
