Imagine the silent struggle beneath the waves as a majestic shark finds itself ensnared by a fisherman's hook. These powerful creatures, essential to the health of our oceans, are often caught for their fins, meat, or sport, their strength reduced to a trophy. Each hooked shark represents a vital part of the marine ecosystem lost, a guardian of the ocean's balance taken away. This silent tragedy unfolds daily, unnoticed by many.

You can see the damage to the side of the sharks mouth from a fishing hook. Luckily this big bully is resilient and will likely have nothing more than a faint scar in no time 🤞💯 But....

We need to raise our voices for these voiceless giants. Share this post to spread awareness about the plight of sharks. By bringing attention to their suffering, we can push for stronger protections and sustainable fishing practices. Together, we can ensure these magnificent creatures continue to thrive in our oceans for generations to come.

HOOKED 🪝 Most of the sharks we see have been hooked by fishermen, and some are then shot in the head. There is a huge lack of respect for wildlife here in Florida. It is very discouraging to see such an amazing predator, a crucial part of the eco-system, abused, and tormented by people who most definitely should not be allowed to carry a firearm. More and more sharks are turning up with bullet holes, bang stick wounds from shotgun cartridges, etc. The sad part is, the people who are doing this do it out of spite. It makes them feel good. It’s sick. When are things going to change?

The hammerhead shark is one of the ocean's most distinctive and captivating predators. With its unique, flattened head that resembles a hammer, known as a cephalofoil, this shark stands out among its peers. This unusual head shape is not just for show; it enhances the shark's ability to find prey by providing a 360-degree vision range and housing highly specialised sensory organs. Hammerheads primarily feed on fish, octopuses, and crustaceans, using their broad heads to pin down stingrays, their favorite prey, against the ocean floor.

There are nine species of hammerhead sharks, with the great hammerhead (Sphyrna mokarran) being the largest, reaching lengths of up to 20 feet. These sharks inhabit warm, tropical, and temperate waters worldwide, often found in coastal areas and continental shelves. They are known for their schooling behavior, particularly during the day, which provides safety in numbers and enhances their foraging efficiency.

Despite their fascinating adaptations and crucial role in marine ecosystems, hammerhead sharks face significant threats from overfishing and habitat destruction. Their fins are highly valued in the shark fin trade, leading to severe population declines. Consequently, several species, including the great hammerhead, are listed as endangered or vulnerable by the IUCN.

Hammerhead sharks play a vital role in maintaining the health of oceanic environments by controlling the populations of their prey. Conservation efforts are essential to protect these remarkable creatures and ensure the balance of marine ecosystems. By understanding and preserving hammerhead sharks, we safeguard the intricate and delicate web of life that thrives beneath the waves.

Predator and Prey 🤯 Read The Story Of My All Time Favourite Shot!👇🏽

Photographed off the coast of Jupiter, Florida. “The sun was going down and the lighting was epic, Evening thunderclouds were building, but light rays were still poking through here and there. Everything came together. When bull sharks attack, they extend their jaws. It was exciting to try to get that moment on camera. This is one of my all-time favourite moments, and all-time favourite shots.

Incredible encounter with a baby humpback whale and mother. The baby couldn't have been more than 2 weeks old. Could have just been born. At birth, humpback whales are "only" 12-14 feet long. This one seemed about that size. Just slowly learning to navigate the ocean. Looking at us in curiosity. What a moment.
