Jerome Kanyika the former Pharmaceutical of Zambia President and also a member of the upnd National Health Committee has been put on his defense.
This is in a matter he has been taken to court by Zamra for importing drugs without a permit.
Defense has been set for 11,12 and 13th February,2025 and his bond has been extended.

The matter is before Magistrate Hon. Mercy Chabu in Mufulira.

IDPS TO BE LAUNCHED TOMORROW

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Hon. Gary Nkombo, MP, will tomorrow, 17th January, 2025, launch 18 Integrated Development Plans (IDPs) for Western and Southern Provinces.

Of the 18 IDPs, a total of 16 IDPs are for districts in Western province and two (2) for Itezhi-tezhi and Chirundu in Southern province.

An IDP is a principal strategic planning instrument, which gives an overall framework for development in a particular District. The document guides planning, budgeting, management and decision-making by all sectors in each District, and places a greater emphasis on the integration of socio-economic and spatial planning.

The launch will be a significant as it sets the tone for the implementation of IDPS in compliance with Part III, Section 19 of the Urban and Regional Planning Act No. 3 of 2015, which provides for the preparation and implementation of IDPs as the principal planning instrument to guide development aligned with the needs and priorities of the district.

NKANA INDEPENDENT MP RELEASED FROM CUSTODY

NKANA member of Parliament Binwel Mpundu has this afternoon been released from woodlands police station.

This follows his arrest yesterday for seditious practices.

After meeting his bail conditions today and as per Newdawn's Government of not keeping people in custody long, he has been released from police cells.

Not very long ago under the previous regime it was next to impossible for any political figure to be given a bail without spending more than a week in police cells.

Thank you to President Hakainde Hichilema for bringing sanity in the running of affairs in the country.

MINISTRY OF HEALTH SHOULD CONSIDER EMPLOYING A PR OFFICER AT ROAN GENERAL HOSPITAL

The Newdawn Government under his Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema has done a lot at the hospital with many projects done not known to the public.

It's for this reason that we see it fit for the Ministry to consider employing a permanent PR officer who will in turn inform the public on what is happening at the hospital.

Will draw you back to an event which happened in Luanshya back last year. We had an accident which happened in the district involving a Roan General hospital ambulance, as a media house based in Luanshya we tried getting details concerning this accident from the hospital, but to no avail. Our officer then on the ground was tossed from one office to another, and no proper details were given.

PR officers handle such issues professionally as they know their job and how to interact with the media.

A public relations (PR) officer's roles include managing an organization's public image, planning events, and handling media inquiries. They also work to minimize negative publicity and build positive relationships with the public.

Responsibilities

Crisis management: Handling major issues that could negatively impact the organization's public image, such as product recalls or employee actions

Media relations: Developing relationships with the media to promote the organization, writing press releases, and responding to media inquiries

Research: Monitoring publicity and researching the concerns and expectations of stakeholders

NEWLY APPOINTED EASTERN PROVINCE PRINCIPAL PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER GETS DOWN TO WORK...

Eastern citizens must have a say in how their money is spent - Government

THE Deputy Permanent Secretary for Eastern Province, Dr Lewis Mwape, has stressed the importance of involving citizens in the planning and budgeting processes.

Dr Mwape said citizen's participation will help in the formulation of national policies to enhance development and promote decentralisation.

Speaking at the official opening of a consultative meeting on the review of the 2014 National Planning and Budgeting Policy in Chipata, Dr Mwape emphasised the need for a "bottom-up" approach, where planning starts at the community level and works its way up.

He underscored the need to incorporate provisions of the Local Government Act No. 1 of 2019, which provides platforms for citizen engagement.

“Without citizen participation in the development processes, development remains a pipe dream. Emphasis should be put on citizen participation in the budget formulation process to increase the input of the people on matters that affect them,” Dr Mwape said.

This was contained in a statement issued by Eastern Province Principal Public Relations Officer, Tobias Phiri.

Dr Mwape further urged stakeholders to critically analyse Zambia’s economic, environmental, political, and social landscapes to ensure the revised policy addresses both current and emerging development needs.

“It is when you have well-stipulated and outlined legislation that citizen participation becomes a driving force for national development, facilitating the identification of problems and devising people-driven solutions,” he stated.

Dr Mwape expressed optimism that the outcome of the review process would produce a revised policy aligned with the national vision and responsive to the demands of economic growth and sustainable development.

The consultative meeting, organised by the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, brought together departmental heads from various ministries and district representatives in Eastern Province.

PF SG CALLS FOR MATERO PARLIAMENTARY SEAT TO BE DECLARED VACANT

The Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General, Morgan Ng’ona, has petitioned the Constitutional Court to declare the Matero Parliamentary seat vacant, following the expulsion of its incumbent MP, Miles Sampa.

In his submission, Mr. Ng’ona has argued that Mr. Sampa was officially expelled from PF on July 3, 2024.

He has further revealed that the party promptly informed the Speaker of the National Assembly of the development on July 3 and 4, 2024 but despite this, no action has been taken to vacate the seat.

Mr. Ng'ona has since asked the court to compel the National Assembly to immediately declare the seat vacant and formally notify the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to facilitate a by-election.

MONGU MAYOR NYAMBE MUYUMBANA NAMED 2024 CIVIC LEADER

The civic leader of the Year 2024 award in Barotseland....

Nyambe Muyumbana is a Mongu mayor , who is naturally a black bull also known as “mofu ye bopa " is an independent person who is the first mayor in the history of Zambia to have been suspended for more than six months and still come back strong and won people's hearts.

He has been advocating and helping youths with formations of women clubs and youths cooperatives in order to be empowered with the CDF. His works on the ground speaks for themselves as he is working with the local people in Mongu district. He engages local people in various activities including education, sports and tourism. He works with grassroots, community, business community and traditional leadership. He is a journalist by profession and recently graduated as a lawyer.

The Drug Enforcement Commission has formally charged and arrested six (06) Chinese, one (01) Congolese and one (01) Burundian national in separate operations conducted in Lusaka.

In the first matter, the Commission has jointly charged and arrested four (04) male Chinese nationals for Operating a Casino without lawful authority, pursuant to Section 3, Sub - Section 7 (a) (b) of Cap 157 of the Laws of Zambia. Further, one of the four Chinese nationals has been jointly charged with another female Chinese national for production and possession of pornographic materials with the sixth also facing similar charges, pursuant to Sections 56 and 59 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia. Those arrested include Li Shilin, male aged 25 years, Yaun Hang, male aged 24 years, Zheng Jingke, female aged 25 years, Hou Chaowen, male aged 25 years, Yuan Menghan, Female aged 22 years and Liu Jipeng, male aged 22 years; all residents of Lusaka District.

Apart from them engaging in the production of pornographic content, an analysis of electronic gadgets used by the above - mentioned persons revealed that they were enticing members of the public to join a Computer - based Gaming Scheme where they were required to make deposits of money for services. For people to join the Scheme, perpetrators would make promises of impressive winnings. Unfortunately, unsuspecting victims would eventually get blocked from the Gaming System; leading to the loss of their hard-earned money. Evidence was deciphered showing messages from victims who did not receive the promised rewards.

In another separate operation commenced in Chirundu District and concluded in Lusaka, the Commission has jointly charged and arrested Nkurunziza Fridolire, male aged 25 years, a Mechanic of Burundian origin resident in John Laing area and Uwizeye Desire, male aged 31 years, a Congolese national resident in Makeni in Lusaka District. The two have been jointly charged and arrested for the offence of trafficking in 80 prepacks of compressed high -grade Cannabis weighing 86 Kilogrammes. In connection with the case, the Commission has also seized a motor vehicle being; a Toyota Ractis bearing Registration Number BBD6730. The vehicle is reasonably believed to be an instrumentality of crime, as part of the drugs were being ferried using the same.

All the suspects are detained in lawful custody awaiting Court appearances.

Meanwhile, the State recorded a Conviction in the matter involving Nsoni Mpulamakasa, a Lusaka based Scientist and Proprietor of Nature by Nature DNA Laboratory and Legal by Nature; together with Musenge Ng’ambi. Facts of the matter are that, acting upon reasonable suspicion that the above-mentioned persons were conducting activities suspected to be in contravention of the law, the Commission undertook a fact-finding investigation at the stated Laboratory and inside a dwelling house in Kabwata Site and Service.

The investigation led to the discovery of 111 grammes of Cannabis whose Delta-9- Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content was above the prescribed 0.03% threshold. Evidence indicated that Nsoni and his co-accused were conducting tests on the said drugs without Lawful Authority. Based on the findings, the pair were subsequently charged and arrested for the offence of Trafficking in Psychotropic Substances pursuant to Section 15 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act Number 35 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia.

When the matter came up before Court, Nsoni Mpulamakasa was found guilty and subsequently sentenced to 15 Months Imprisonment with Hard Labour. However, his co-accused, Musenge Ng’ambi was acquitted.

The Commission wishes to thank alert members of the general public for reporting suspicious activities. We further call upon all citizens to continue reporting suspected illegal activities to the Commission so that together, we can prevent, detect and combat crimes.
