ARE YOU READY FOR POWER OUTAGES TODAY?

Source- Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action

With extreme heat conditions today and strong, gusty winds expected this afternoon, there is an increased risk of localised power outages.

Make sure you have access to:

📱 a fully charged mobile phone with emergency contact numbers
📻 a battery-powered radio for alerts and updates
🥫 non-perishable foods and bottled water
⛑ an emergency kit
🔦 a torch or battery-operated light

If you lose power today, stay cool by wearing loose-fitting clothing and staying hydrated. Keep your doors and windows closed to keep cool air in. Consider placing towels under doors to block hot air draughts.

Stay safe by keeping clear of fallen powerlines – always assume they are live – and report any fallen powerlines to your electricity distributor.

If you are a registered power-dependent customer, ensure your power outage plan is updated and in place.

Find out how to prepare for power outages - and what to do if you are experiencing an outage: energy.vic.gov.au/about-energy/safety/power-outages or call 136 186.

DONT BLOCK THIS NUMBER.

SOURCE- CFA South West

We've all blocked a number after receiving an unwanted text or call, but if you see +61 444 444 444 pop up on your phone, it is important you do not block this one.

This phone number is linked to Emergency Alert, a national telephone warning system used by emergency services across the country to send voice messages to landlines and text messages to mobiles within a specific area to warn people about current emergencies.

Emergency Alert is not used in all situations, so it’s important to rely on more than just one source of emergency information.

Stay informed, download the VicEmergency app and visit https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/

BE PREPARED AHEAD OF EXTREMELY DANGEROUS DAY - LEAVE EARLY

SOURCE: CFA South West

Thursday’s fire danger will be the worst across Victoria since Black Summer in 2019-20.

Hot and windy conditions will start early from 10am on Boxing Day and continue through the day and night until at least Friday morning.

If you choose to leave these areas of elevated risk, go on the night of 25 December or no later than 10am on 26 December before the Extreme fire conditions begin. Be sure to let your family and friends know where you are going.

On an Extreme Fire Danger day, fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.

Many Victorians will have plans on Boxing Day to spend time with friends or family, or travel across the state on their way to or from holiday events, so ensure you are aware of this increased danger before heading out on the road.

Avoid any travel through bushland areas where possible.

It is vital to take action to protect your life and property - your life may depend on the decisions you make.

Make a fire plan now before it is too late: www.fireplanner.vic.gov.au.
