AWARDS | Last month, the team at Carat Perth took the stage to accept the 2022 Helen Filov Media Agency of The Year award. The result ends the predecessors five-year reign in the top spot of Campaign Brief’s annual poll of sales directors and senior sales executives at WA’s major media companies. Three years ago, Carat Perth was in 9th place – as of today, they're officially number one. Huge congratulations to the Perth team – for their dedication, hard work, perseverance, and camaraderie that has led them to this point. As any strong unit would know, there really are no shortcuts to any place worth going. It's hard to describe the feeling of coming first, but it’s definitely along the lines of ‘pretty damn good’.

WORK | Carat SA has showcased the Red Centre journeys on the path to the Discovery Resorts Kings Canyon as part of a campaign designed to attract tourists to the destination. WORK | If you’re located in Sydney, you may have recently seen South Australia’s iconic D’Arenberg Cube popping up on screens across the city. In collaboration with Carat and QMS, the South Australian Tourism Commission have activated 3D anamorphic creative on a number of outdoor street furniture panels. From particular vantage points, the creative becomes 3D enabled, with the cube and the vines appearing to emerge from the artwork.

Additionally, the colours of the sky in the background change throughout the day mirroring local time. The creative shows the D'Arenberg Cube in all of its glory, from morning sunrise, daytime sunshine, sunset golden hour, to evening when the stars emerge. The striking artwork will run throughout the VIVID festival period, ensuring it is seen by thousands of Sydneysiders as well as those in town visiting the annual lights festival.

EVENTS | Last week the Melbourne office hosted multiple events celebrating International Women’s Day. This IWD was celebrated with some real conversations across two different panel discussions. This years theme was Cracking the code, Innovation for a gender equal future was tackled differently by our panelists, lifting the conversation into everyday acts.

On Wednesday 8th March we heard from Chris Ernst, Steph Rudnik and Deepa Singh on what good allyship looks like, learning to open our minds on where it could come from and whom, and shake our own self-limiting stereotypes. This panel was hosted by Carat's own Nisha Rajamani.

The panel on Thursday 9th in collaboration with dentsu Creative’s client and partner AMEX, saw us face hard truths about the stats on gender inequities, as well as embedded biases in the tech industry. But the takeaway was clear- every small act of change supports shifts in systemic bias to progress social and organisational change. An eye opening and inspirational couple of days overall.

WORK | Carat is beyond proud of its work with BWS celebrating Mardi Gras. The campaign, which was born out of lived experience of Carat's own q***r talent, celebrates the diversity of the rainbow by highlighting the many and varied identities within the q***r community, emphasising that it is not a monolith, and all are welcome into every BWS across Australia during Pride Month and across the year.

We are also thrilled that BWS is committed to this community for the entire year, not just as part of Pride Month, with some of the 1,400 stores that will rebrand as BWYASSS for Pride, retaining the rainbow branding throughout the year. BWS also has an exclusive range, Loud & Proud, of which 100% of profits will be donated to The Pride Foundation Australia.

What’s the craziest thing you have done – and would you do it again?
Many years ago on my 20th birthday I had a huge beach party. A friend of mine had a plane license so we snuck down to the Aldinga airstrip, hired a plane and we did a fly by over my party! Yes, I would do it again – but I doubt it would be possible these days.

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?
Jesus, Elvis, John Lennon, Ghandi …. Would be a great conversation!

You have the chance to go back in time to change one thing – what would that be?
I would go back to the 80’s and buy lots of property!

Have you ever had a nickname - can you share what it is?
I'm called "Ate" by my family, which means older sister in Filipino. It's ironic since I often get mistaken for the younger sibling, though it probably has to do with my height haha.

What’s the craziest thing you have done – and would you do it again?
Due to a lapse in self-preservation and the need to check if my car lights were on, I once ran from one end of uni to the other…during the darkest storm I’ve ever seen.
It was very wet, very windy and very scary. And once I got to the car park, soaked to the bone, it was to my unfortunate realisation that I ran for nothing. My car lights were *off*.

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?
Mary Oliver, Gregory Alan Isakov, Wong-Kar Wai and Danielle Haim.

You have the chance to go back in time to change one thing – what would that be?
I go back and forth on this question, but for the sake of answering it – I’d like to tell my Grade 3 self to not quit that recorder performance.

Says Goldie, "It has been a great milestone in achieving 18 years with one company. What’s on your bucket list this year?
Seeing as there is only a few months left of the year I’m going to use 2023 instead… on my bucket list is my partner and I finally buying our first home!

If a genie granted you 3 wishes right now, what would you wish for?
• One of my uncle’s who I’m very close to is very unwell at the moment so I would wish for great health for him and for him to be better
• The remaining money for my house deposit!
• To be able to run long distances straight away – I broke my foot about 3 months ago, it has been a very loooongggg recovery which is hard for someone who loves running everyday

Have you ever had nickname - can you share what it is?
I have so many!!! The most common include G, GC, George, Diddles (my dad’s nickname for me) GCap, G-Unit the list goes on…

What’s the craziest thing you have done – and would you do it again?
One of my friends and I hitchhiked and got into a completely random guy’s car to get to Uni night, there was no public transport running at the time and this is way before Ubers. I cringe thinking about it, and absolutely would not do it again!!!

If you could share a meal with any 4 individuals, living or dead, who would they be?
1. Eliud Kipchoge (the only male marathon runner who has run a marathon in under two hours)

EVENT I As a proud supporter of PRIDE, Carat Perth hosted a table at the Crown PRIDE Luncheon. Larger than life entertainment and a very stirring keynote by Holly Ransom on the "edit, educate and echo" manifesto. We have to edit our language, educate those around us and start to echo for change and inclusion. A reminder that when one person stands up, they are heard, but when two more people stand up to support them, real change starts to happen.
