I remember when I was first introduced to Facebook back in 2007.
I was totally blown away at this platform that allowed you to keep in contact with people that you went to high school with that you would otherwise never had contact again with for the rest of your life.
From that moment, I was mind blown.
I was ALL IN.
I had to learn everything there was about this amazing platform so that I could teach others how to use it.
You could say I was an early adopter, back then none of my friends were on Facebook. I think it was about 2 years later before I started getting friend requests from all of my best friends and high school friends.
I remember getting excited with each new friend request thinking to myself “Yes, you have arrived Judy”. “Yay, Jodi, I am so glad you finally made it to the technology”. Of course there were some friends and family that were “never going to use social media”. They hated it and everything it stood for, simply because they were “Old Skool” and just didn’t understand the power of being able to stay connected with anyone and everyone.
I have always been an entrepreneur so for me, I wanted to learn all there was to know about how this all worked. There were no algorithms back then because in 2007 there were only 20 million users on the platform. Today in 2018 there is well over 2 and a half billion users which is growing at a rapid rate daily.
Fun Fact - did you know that if Facebook were a country it would be the most populous country on earth. It is now larger then the biggest country which is China. That is alot of people.
So fast forward today and so much has changed. We have algorithms that work out mathematically what content to put in front of what people which is worked out by the use of artificial intelligence and learning machines that study the users patterns of what they like, comment and engage on, as well as what they swipe past and mark as spam.
Being an entrepreneur with my own invention, marketing has always been a passion of mine also, so it was just a natural progression for me to follow my passions and become a Social Media Marketer and Content Creator.
What excites me even more now is that we have now entered next level technology and now am working with artificial intelligence with what is called Chat Bots. Which again will revolutionize how we market our business and stay in contact with our clients.
It is an exciting time to be alive, and I am excited to be in the space of Social Media Management and Content Creation.
Where will the next 10 years take us?
