The Wombat Hole Studio The Wombat Hole is an independent recording studio whose mission is to help local artists produce, record and distribute their music.

The Wombat Hole is a Audio Recording Studio located in Kiama, NSW operated by Jamie Fletcher. With many years experience in recording and music production I understand that capturing creativity requires a supportive and nurturing atmosphere as well as technical know how and equipment. Originally conceived in 2007 as a space to rehearse and record my own projects the studio has evolved over time. W

ith several equipment and software upgrades the studio is now located in beautiful Kiama and is an ideal space for musicians to capture their performances and create something truly unique. Recording is done using a Presonus Studiolive 32SX interface allowing 32 independent tracks to be recorded simultaneously. These can be mixed down to whatever format you require. For those who would like to mix their our tracks you can do your tracking in the studio and take home your stems to mix on your own PC in whatever DAW you choose. The amount of time it takes to complete your recording will depend on several factors including:
> How many tracks you wish to record
> How well rehearsed you are
> How many musicians are playing on each track
> The desired quality of the recording ie Is it for release or just a demo

Bands can record live or multi-track depending on your preference. Multi track recording often works out to be quicker and of a higher or more studio sounding quality than live but can lack some of the feel of a live recording. The studio is also fully equiped to host multi camera live stream concerts. These are mixed through the main desk and stream in HD - check out some of the events we have done in our feed. Contact Jamie Fletcher on 0439 060996 to book a session. Take advantage of our variety of in house instruments to add musical colour to your recording. Studio Equipment:

Recently made the decision to take up hybrid mixing so have been on a buying spree getting hold of the necessary gear. The heart of the set up is a Soundcraft GB4 desk which I'm mixing through, combined with a limited amount of outboard gear.
So nice to not be trapped in the box!

Love & Able were in the studio last weekend doing a bit of live recording. Here is their very nice version of Alice In Chain's song Rain When I Die.

Used up a bit of studio time today on something for myself!

Wrote this to record today in the studio. Wanted something that sounded lush on the 12 string! And I was having a bad hair day so needed a hat!

Gearing up to start live streaming from the studio again soon. In preparation I recorded this jam that happened yesterday with some mates. Simple set up - two room mics and 3 cameras. Need to work on the camera angles a bit and add the 4th camera... It's rough but was a lot of fun. Thanks boys for the awesome time! 😁

A brief explanation of how I've used CCTV cameras as video monitors in the studio.

Our Story

I still remember the first time I went into a studio to record, it was exciting yet at the same time terrifying! My band was well rehearsed and we cut 6 tracks live to cassette tape. Those memories and that old tape are precious and I still listen to it every couple of years, so I know how important all your recordings are. Maybe you are wanting to make your first recording or maybe you are just looking for an intimate place to do your next recording? Whichever is the case The Wombat Hole Studio is perfect for you! The Wombat Hole is a small Studio operated by me, local singer/songwriter Jamie Fletcher. I have many years experience writing, performing and recording. I understand that capturing creativity requires a supportive and nurturing atmosphere as well as technical know how and a bit of kit.

Originally conceived in 2007 as a space in which to rehearse and record my own projects the studio has evolved over time. The first location of the studio was in an abandoned mushroom growing shed on my parents farm at Carrington Falls where a very large Wombat had taken up residence underneath the concrete slab floor, hence the studio’s name! Me and my band mates from Sluice scavenged up timber and carpet, windows and doors and set about building a space we could practice and record. The equipment and software has been upgraded many times over the years and after the farm was sold in 2016 the move was made to beautiful Kiama.

The studio now has a cosy live room approximately 3.5m x 4m which is great for recording drums and a separate control room that also doubles as a second live room for vocal or guitar tracking simultaneously with drum tracking.

I record digitally using a presonus StudioLive 32SX recording desk that interfaces with StudioOne 4 Professional software. This combination can record 32 tracks simultaneously without monitoring latency and is perfect for recording an entire band at once without compromise on track count. There is no limit to the number of tracks that can the added to a project with many of my projects using 40 to 50 tracks. These I mix down to a stereo master or I can provide you with high resolution wav files for mixing and mastering elsewhere.
