Max Jackson, one of the next big stars in Australian country music – the 2022 Toyota Star Maker winner and 2023 Golden Guitar nominee – has been named an ambassador for next year’s 52nd Tamworth Country Music Festival.

“I am so proud to be announced as an ambassador for the Toyota Country Music Festival, Tamworth,” Jackson remarked in a press release. “As an Australian country music artist, the Tamworth Country Music Festival is what it’s all about.

“This spectacular ten-day event brings fans, artists and the industry together in a way that no other event does, and I am so excited to share this unique live music experience with everyone.”

Toyota Country Music Festival Manager Barry Harley added, “We know over recent years there has been a real shift in our audience, with a new generation of talent making waves in the industry.

“While the Festival continues to recognise and honour our nation’s country music greats and stars from across all the industry’s many subgenres, we know it’s important to champion and support emerging artists to ensure the longevity of our industry and event.

“We’re excited to welcome Max Jackson as an ambassador, whose talent and sound is a refreshing and contemporary approach to Australian country music.”

The finalists for the 2024 Golden Guitar Awards have officially been unveiled, with Australia's younger artists starting to take centre stage.

James Johston was fortunate in receiving 6 nominations.
Johnston, who first starting busking at six years old, said he was humbled to be nominated alongside some of his heroes.

"I'm still trying to figure out what's working at the moment, but I've been having an incredible run of people coming to my shows and people singing my songs," he said

"It's incredible to see where country music is going at the moment. It is in such a healthy place, and there is so much young talent coming through."

Eight-time Golden Guitar winner F***y Lumsden is capping off last week's ARIA win for Best Country Album with four nominations, including Alternative Country Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.

Rising Star inspiring youth
Tamworth, the country music capital of Australia, as well as the wider New England region, are also well represented in the nominations.

2023 Rising Star Loren Ryan, as well as Lane Pittman and Max Jackson, were all nominated for New Talent of the Year.

As a Gamilaraay woman, Ryan said she was so proud to be nominated following the release of her music video, Suddenly, which featured her daughter Charlie.

"It brings inclusivity to the country music genre. It brings diversity," she said

"For my baby to see herself up there, and other young kids watching today, hopefully it brings inspirations to them."

'Forging their way'
Coonamble's Max Jackson was announced as the official ambassador for the upcoming Tamworth Country Music Festival.

The 2022 Star Marker winner said she was looking to inspire new artists and introduce more young people to the genre.

"Particularly with social media, everyone has a place to showcase their music," Jackson said.

"It's incredible to be able to come here at any level of your career and showcase what you can do.

"We need our Aussie artists to be showcased across all media. We have some amazing new artists who are really forging their way."

The 52nd edition of the awards will again mark the culmination of the Tamworth Country Music Festival on January 27, 2024
