Friends, we can't wait to share this brilliant debut novel with you — A Minor Fifth by GS Dickson.
It was shortlisted for the Vogel a few years back and is easily the funniest and most innovative thing I've read in years. We all know editing is a hateful task so any book that keeps you laughing out loud and shaking your head at its invention and ambition through it all must have something special.
Rohan Wilson describes it as if 'David Mitchell and William Faulkner must have written a novel together. It’s very funny, sad, moving, engaging ... It’s innovative, the point of view shifts, it takes a lot of risks — it’s an incredible book.’
The Faulkner comparison make sense (you'll see) but, for my money, the animating spirit here is James Joyce. And yes I know how that sounds but it has that same playful love of the music and poetry and fun that makes a novel worth reading. Only in this case the music is classic Aussie rock 'n' roll — think Aztecs, Coloured Balls, the heights of AC/DC, the depths of X Factor.
A Minor Fifth by GS Dickson hits stores later this month but you can have an advance copy, plus free postage, and $5 discount. Just follow the link and use code BILLY at checkout.
