After 3 weeks in Warrnambool deciding whether to stop for work at The Discovery Park, we headed an hour up the road to Simpson. Back in 2017 we did our very first house sit out at Kennedy's Creek which is literally only 11 mins up the road. Looking forward to catching up with Paul and Christine (Kennedy's Creek house sit).

Basing ourselves at Simpson Recreation Reserve, $20 p/n power or $15 p/n unpowered. There is no water hookup however there is a tap to fill up tanks. It has toilets and a shower here.

We will be doing the surrounding area including the Great Ocean Road from Peterborough to Apollo Bay. It's been nearly 7 years since we have been down this way and Elijah was too young to remember The Great Ocean Road. Will update with photos soonish.

Another miserable day with up to 15mm of rain.

After being stuck inside all day i decided to head out for dinner and surprise the family. I wanted to go to Emperors House Chinese Restaurant but for some reason they close on a Tuesday not the standard Monday. We headed over the road to Bojangles Restaurant but they were booked out.

We decided on Images Restaurant, Cafe and Cocktail Bar.
I ordered a BBQ Chicken Pizza, Elijah ordered the Chicken Kiev and Julie had the Seafood basket.
Dinner was pretty good except for the 3 rude idiots at the table behind us who insisted on swearing every 5 seconds. Even the waitress asked if we wanted to go to a quieter area. Which we did as my blood was starting to boil real hot.

After dinner we went for a drive along the breakwater again. This time stopping in at Pickering Point. The views back into town were really nice.

Arrived in Mount Gambier Showgrounds on the 30th June after our stay in Robe. Had a few days of just relaxing and looking around town etc.
Today the 3rd July we went for a road trip to Portland, Victoria. Had a brilliant day exploring the area.
It has been 40 years since Scott was in Portland, and tbh I don't remember much of the town.
Had some fish and chips in the park but wind was very chilly. Explored some old buildings from the 1800's era.
Visited Cape Nelson Lighthouse, Discovery Bay Coastal Park, Cape Bridgewater (Blow holes and Petrified Forest) and than a casual drive back to Mount Gambier Showgrounds where we are based for our stay in Mount Gambier.

Robe, South Australia.

Monday 24th June 2024

After leaving Murray Bridge we headed down the Princess Highway to Robe. Roughly a 265km trip. We stopped along the way in Kingston SE to take a photo of Larry The Big Lobster. Another Aussie Big Thing off the list.

After arriving at our base camp in Robe, we unhitched the caravan. We are booked here for 7 nights. There is a lot to do in a 1.5 hr radius of Robe. So we hope that we get to do the whole region in our time here.

Tuesday 25th June 2024
We headed into town for a drive around and checked out all the new housing estates. Omg, there is some gorgeous houses in this town. The day was kinda boring as we had between 6-20mm of rain plus the wind was high 50km/hr gust which made us take down the Annex and put in the awning at around midnight as we where so worried that it was going to tear.

Wednesday 26th June 2024
Another day of wind and rain. In the morning we took our time and put the Annex back up as we had been rushed when it was put up when we arrived and we didn't have the anti flappers on tight enough etc. Rookie Mistake.
We drive into town and stopped at the Robe Bakery 1884 and had some lunch.
Scott had a meat pie, chocolate donuts and a mug of English Breakfast Tea, Julie had a Chicken and Avocado Baget, mug of Flat White Coffee and a Apple and Cinnamon Scroll and Elijah had a Hotdog with the works, Chocolate Donut and a Strawberry Milkshake.
The food was delicious, service was awesome and has to be one of the better bakeries we have been to.

Thursday 27th June 2024
We went for a drive down to the Esplanade and took some photos of the ocean and different monuments around town. After this we went for a casual drive towards Nora Creina. We stopped in at quite a few places along the way.
Lake Robe viewing point, Little Dip Conservation Park, Long Gully Campground (hoping to spend a night camping here to see a wild Wombat), Freshwater Lake Trail, Old Man Lake Camping Ground and Little Dip Beach. By this time of the day it was already after midday and we where all hungry. We only got about half way to Nora Creina and decided we would head out another day earlier to make it a full day of Adventures. Arrived back to base and headed to Foodland for some supplies as Scott wanted Bacon, Eggs, Sausages and Toast for a late lunch. We were all full as anything and had a relaxing afternoon watching Mountain Men Alaska (one of the family's fav tv shows).

Friday to Sunday 28th - 30th June 2024
The weather is absolutely crap. Up to 63 km/hr gust is enough of a sign to stay inside and do some editing of photos and videos.

Keep an eye out guys and gals.

Had a great 7 night stay at The Murray Bridge Showgrounds.
$20.00 a night for powered site with water or $10 per night non power and water.
There is no toilets or showers here so must be fully self contained and water cannot be put onto the ground.
Leon, the caretaker is friendly and always up for a chat.
The showgrounds are close to town.

I know it's been a while since our last post. But life gets in the way when you're having heaps of fun.

After getting to Alice Springs we decided to stop for 5 weeks to top up the bank balance. We also took the time to re-evaluate our plans. We where heading north to Darwin for the winter months but decided that we wanted to go against the norm and go back down south for the winter. We also took a huge step (for Scott anyway, as I get sea sick) and booked the Spirit of Tasmania for the 2nd November. We decided as a family to do a summer and winter in Tasmania.

Also whilst in Alice Springs, Elijah was accepted for High School with Alice Springs SOTA as Kalgoorlie SOTA only does Prep to Year 6. It's going to be sad leaving this awesome school after 7 years of being with them. But new chapters have to start somewhere.

So after leaving Alice Springs we headed back down towards Adelaide to do the parts that we missed last time.

This visit to Adelaide was rushed and unplanned. We caught up with some friends that we didn't catch up with earlier in the year as we did family then. Unfortunately sometimes we just have to make sacrifices and was unable to see some family or friends on this trip back to Adelaide. But we still love and miss you all. This trip back was to do the small amount of things that we missed last time. Like Adelaide Oval, Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide City and China Town.

We caught up with friends Peter and Annie. We met these guys back in 2018-2019 in Darwin. Alot of laughs and good times had.

After leaving Adelaide we headed south venturing into new areas that we haven't been. We are currently staying 7 nights at the Murray Bridge Showgrounds ($20 per night, power and water) and will be leaving here on Saturday the 22nd for Kingston SE and then down to Robe for a week.

Heaps of memories have been made and fun times had. We will post photos etc soonish whilst we travel south over the next few months towards Geelong to board the Big Boat for Tasmania on the 2nd November. It will give us a good chance to get accustomed to the colder weather ready for Tassie. Looking forward to spending a couple of months in Victoria and doing things that we haven't done or doing things again so Elijah can relive what little memories he has of Melbourne. Elijah was only about 4 when we was here last.

Exciting times ahead.

We arrived at Ayers Rock Campground on the 18th April.
It has been Julie's dream to visit the Rock for about 30 years. So on the 19th we rode our bikes around the base of the Rock (10km ride). We really enjoyed the 1.5hr ride. Had lunch at the Cafe which we where majorly disappointed with as the food was disgusting. It's not hard to make toasted sandwiches, but it is what it is I guess.

After our bike ride we drove approximately 44km out to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).

So we started the Oodnadatta Track today.
Currently night 1. A day of hitting the dirt, corrugations and carnage.
Our Diesel heater tank came off somewhere on the track from the corrugations, fridge came loose and one cupboard shelf came down.

Was one epic day of driving, sightseeing and awesome drone footage which we will load up soonish.
