CIMHFF is a film festival run by This is My Brave Australia. This Is My Brave Australia is dedicated to breaking the stigma surrounding mental illness, one story at a time. Through the sharing of stories and experiences of those in recovery, we provide a sense of community and hope; and we aim to encourage others to share their stories. We believe that each time one of us shares our story, there's another crack helping to break down the stigma of mental illness. It's time to be brave and bring mental health issues into the spotlight.

"Where The Water Starts"

2pm Fri 26th January, Palace Electric Cinema
PREVIEW https://youtu.be/kXb3hvOgPUc

Where The Water Starts reveals how the fragile alpine region, particularly Kosciuszko National Park, the largest in the Australian Alps is seen by a number of Indigenous and non-Indigenous people who were born or live in the southern mountains area, or who care deeply about it.

The film brings together respected Aboriginal community leaders including Uncle Max Dulumunmun Harrison, Aunty Sue Bulger, Aunty Rhonda Casey, Bruce Pascoe as well as alpine river guide, Richard Swain and his partner Alison, and local farmer, Sterling Dixon, scientist, Prof David Watson, former parks officer, Paul Hardey and academic, Dr Isa Menzies. The film reflects on their ideas around caring for country as a shared responsibility of all Australians; that the best of Aboriginal connection and the best of regenerative science can work together for a better future for the alpine environment and to protect the habitats of 34 threatened native species.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE AUSTRALIA is a feature documentary that highlights the stories of people who face trauma, depression and anxiety in their lives; their struggles and how they have coped with their struggles and arrived at a sense of well being. The film also examines the way men respond to issues in their lives as compared to women. You Are Not Alone also provides a window into organisations that attempt to promote better mental health in particular Mens Wellbeing, Men's Shed and Outside the Locker Room. Specific areas investigated include depression, creating new beliefs, coping with change and dealing with trauma. The film provides hope and a way forward for those who are impacted by mental health issues.

"This Is My Brave Australia is screening our addiction documentary as part of the Canberra International Mental Health Film Festival.

The films share stories about mental health with the aim of tackling stigma through storytelling, which is something about which I am very passionate. You can watch the films through Filmocracy until the end of the month. (I especially loved an animated short film about anxiety called End of the Line out of Canada.) It is an honor for our film to be amongst such powerful pieces. (Thank you for the work you do, Tim Daly.)

It does take courage to share our stories, but it can make all the difference for those who are listening."

'In real life I have a nose' is a comedy about heavy topics. Amongst influencers on perfect beach holidays and the chiseled bodies of fit boys & girls, an entirely new genre of art has emerged on social media: the webcomic. Short comics in which the personal life of the illustrator takes center stage and where imperfections are tackled with humor. Topics that are hardly discussed during dinner table conversations like depression, racism, sexism and gender issues. Struggling with his own personal issues, director Stephane Kaas tries to make sense of it all by means of his own comic diary in a disarmingly honest way.

Among all the influencers, their perfect beach vacations and muscular bodies, a whole new art genre has emerged on social media: the webcomic. Short, heartfelt comics…

Screening now HANGMAN USA as part of the 6th Canberra International Mental Health Film Festival online at Filmocracy.com 1st - 31st October

HANGMAN is about a recently widowed woman, working through the complexities of grief with the help of friends, strangers, and Tupperware.
Never an easy subject to handle, the film adopts a risky gallows humor to powerful effect, masterfully shifting in tone from somber to side-splitting, snarky to heart-wrenching, without ever dropping into histrionic cliche.
No one grieves the same way and many times our grief can make us do ridiculous things - sometimes those things are funny. And that's ok, too
