NEW WARPAINT UNVEILED AS VEAL JOINS MONTE MOTORSPORT FOR LATE SEASON SCHEDULE

Official release: Monte Motorsport
October 5, 2022

Jamie Veal will drive the Monte Motorsport W17 in 2023.
The 34 year old Warrnambool superstar has announced a short and sharp late season schedule where he’ll saddle up in the iconic W17 Maxim to run selected shows at Kwinana and Bunbury.

“It’s always fun racing with Luch and the Monte team,” said Veal today, “to be honest we had aimed to do a few more races together this season but my commitments have changed prior to Christmas so our dates in the West are scheduled for later in the season now.”

Veal will saddle up in the spectacular Monte Farms / RPM Race Products / Rumbold Ford / Frig Tech WA / Goldstar Transport / Spudshed Fresh Food Market / Homestyle Salads entry for events on April 1, 7, 8 and 21 in WA.

There are also plans for him to saddle up for Darwin later in 2023.
Veal will be the second driver to wheel the Monte W17 in 2022/2023 with American superstar Tyler “Sunshine” Courtney booked in for WA Speedweek in December-January and the always epic “Classic” week at Avalon, Mount Gambier and Warrnambool.

“It’s going to be a great season,” says Luch Monte, “with Sunshine and Vealy driving for us and Dylan Buswell and Steve Melville (Melv working for the team with Veal) on the spanners we’ll have some real speed.”

The W17 looks spectacular this season with pre-season building of the cars and prep being laid by former Monte Motorsport crew chief Kim “Buzzy” Buswell in the lead up to Sunshine’s first race.

“It means a lot to us to have Buzzy at RPM Race Products getting the cars ready,” Monte explains, “nobody knows our cars better than him and of course I trust him with everything to do with this team. It’s perfect to then hand over the cars to first Dylan with Tyler and later Melv wrenching for Jamie.”

The signing of Jamie Veal to wheel the W17 to round out the season is a huge bonus for Monte Motorsport and West Australian Sprintcar fans in general.

AARON REUTZEL SET FOR ECS APPEARANCES

Texan Aaron Reutzel will again link with Sydney's Saller Motorsport for commitments at Eastern Creek Speedway during the high time of the season.

Reutzel, 32, from Clute, Texas, comes to the Eastern Creek venue on the back of a very successful 2022 American season, highlighted with victory in August's 32nd Knoxville 360 Sprintcar Nationals. He will make five appearances at ECS and will also compete at Brisbane's Archerfield Speedway during January.

His first meeting at ECS will be December 30 and will follow up with January 1, 4, 6 and 7 shows in which fellow countryman Carson Macedo also will race. Reutzel then heads north for January 11, 13 and 14 engagements at Archerfield.

It has been three years since Reutzel last raced for Saller Motorsport but he has kept in regular contact with the team after striking up strong camaraderie following his initial campaign.
Team owner Mark Saller was in Knoxville this year and says Aaron is looking forward to running at Eastern Creek Speedway after watching race footage.

“He said it (ECS) looks very fast and we know Aaron likes to be on the loud pedal and run up high. It's just his desire to win and the spectacle that he puts it all on the line.”
Aaron's visit is backed by Toyota Racing Development (TRD).The organisation will be sending two engines for his Down Under campaign. Over the past 12 months Aaron has been working with TRD in a testing programme and is confident he will have a strong motor package.

Mark says Reutzel's working relationship with the Saller team commenced after we “reached out to Aaron when he won an All Star Championship and we messaged him to see if he was interested in coming to Australia. Aaron did his research and then agreed to join Saller Motorsport three years ago.” A highlight of that first visit was victory in a round of the World Series Sprintcar Championship.

Saller Motorsport will again field two cars this season.
Mark's son Michael in the N56 and the team's N7 car will be driven by Robbie Farr. When Reutzel arrives, Farr will continue with the JPM team in Perth before returning to ECS and Stellar Motorsport in early 2023. As a follow-on from Reutzel's upcoming visit, Saller Motorsport will this season continue its sponsorship with Sydney company, Kings Roller Grills and Shutters (KRGS). “We are delighted to continue our long time sponsorship backing and working relationship with Saller Motorsport,” KRGS company head Phil Blackman said. “We go back a long way and our company has been heavily involved with speedway for a long time. We also sponsor a Wingless Sprint, Midget and we have our own Legend Car.”

WORLD SERIES SPRINTCARS PUT ON ICE UNTIL 2023-24 SPEEDWAY SEASON

The Sprintcar States Series will enter a third year of competition in the 2022-23 speedway season after the Speedway Australia board have moved to postpone World Series Sprintcars another year.

The decision was made after extensive discussions revealed a number of different factors threatened to undermine the success of the series, leaving the board with no option but to revert to the State based calendar.

Speedway Australia Board Chairman, Guy Thompson said the discussions were entered into with the first priority to preserve the value of the WSS brand.

“World Series Sprintcars is our sport’s most widely recognized and respected brand, and the decision was made primarily around protecting that brand, and with the multiple threats facing us in the upcoming season, we couldn’t guarantee that World Series would be able to bring the travelling roadshow that the fans have come to love over the last 35 years.”

“The forecast tyre shortage and the unpredictability of shipping delays were certainly factors, but there’s also the added pressures of rising diesel, flight and accommodation cost to the teams and to Speedway Australia, not to mention the rising concern around Covid’s potential resurgence.”
However, he was quick to reinforce the success of the previous two years of the States Series, encouraging fans to get to their local tracks over the summer that is likely to have a return of American flavour.

“The States Series has had an amazing response in the last two years, particularly from the tracks who were very thankful for Speedway Australia’s support in instigating a calendar that still offered good payouts. But when you consider that this year will likely have the return of some American drivers coming back to Australia, the scene is set for what will be a fantastic return to international competition across the nation.”

Details of the respective States Series calendars will be released after consultation with the Sprintcar Control Council of Australia.

HISTORY AND TRADITION AT EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY APRIL 23-24

Two of the oldest events in Australian speedway history – the New South Wales Sprintcar and Midget Championships – will highlight this weekend's two night April 23-24 blockbuster at Eastern Creek Speedway.

Both have a wonderful heritage and 2022 marks the 79th running of the state midget title, while it will be the 63rd edition for sprintcars after what started in 1962 at Sydney's former Windsor Speedway with a championship billed for hot rods.
With both events, the winners' list includes some of the biggest names in the respective categories.

Arthur Murray came from stock cars to win the first NSW Hot Rod Championship for this developing class of racing that later transformed into super modifieds before sprintcars took over Australia in the early 70s.

Lance Burgess was the inaugural NSW midget titleholder in a four lap race during the 1937-28 season at Moore Park's inner city Sydney Sports Ground track.

Australia's late, great three times World Formula One Champion Sir Jack Brabham AO, OBE, won a NSW Midget Championship in 1948 at the nearby Moore Park Sydney Showground.

There will be an added incentive for midget drivers to win the 2022 state championship after Dennis Newlyn's Speedway Classics magazine came on board as a sponsor for the race.
Speedway Classics is putting up an additional $2,000 bonus going to the winner in addition to the regular prize money pay out.
“I wanted to do this because of the title's wonderful history,” Classics publisher and long time journalist/media man Dennis Newlyn said.

“The title also represents what my Speedway Classics magazine best typifies with its acknowledgement of the sport's long and illustrious history. Also, having seen so many state midget championships over the decades, it just made sense to put my hand up on behalf of Speedway Classics as a title sponsor. Some of my best memories come from the mighty midgets, particularly at a track where I grew up, the hallowed Sydney Showground, watching this very race,” Newlyn added.

The race winner is also awarded the Neville Donnelly Championship Shield honouring a wonderful, dedicated, long time NSW association member.

Although the 2015 title is listed as “washed out,” the race actually commenced, then ran a number of laps and counted as a title, though no winner was declared when the rain hit before conclusion of the race.

Stats man Shaun McDonald also came up with a fascinating revelation in that the defending champion, Michael Stewart, won the 2021 midget crown one year exactly to the day he puts his title on the line this year – it was April 24 (2021) at Nowra Speedway.
He also provided the date when the previous NSW Sprintcar Championship was held: December 30, 2019 won by Robbie Farr at Parramatta City Raceway.
Both Farr and Stewart have nominated for this weekend.
With these two wonderful events held at Eastern Creek Speedway, a new chapter in their magnificent history will be written on April 23-24.

Wingless Sprints and a huge fireworks display will support the titles.

General admission tickets are now on sale from www.easterncreekspeedway.com.au/events.htm
Main Program from 6pm, Early Racing from approx 4.45pm

This will be a weekend not to be missed as history and tradition come together in two exciting nights of racing.

MONTE MOTORSPORT REACH CRITICAL CROSSROADS

One of Australian Sprintcar racing’s most dominant and beloved collaboratives is about to call time.
Monte Motorsport Principals Luch Monte and Jeff Grubisa and affable crew chief and jack of all trades Kim “Buzzy” Buswell have been a colourful and vital part of the Aussie Sprintcar landscape.

And on many nights a dominant force.

Clocking up tens of thousands of miles across the nation competing in and often winning the country’s biggest races the Monte and “Buzzy” show have been as much a part of the industry as the clay they’ve raced on.

Buswell in particular has been ‘on the road’ for decades keeping the giant Monte Motorsport juggernaut rolling along and on top of its game.
Like those in the industry with a similar role however the constant grind of life on the road compromises your family time and eventually beats you down.

Even the hardest of road warriors know when it’s time to come home.

“Buzzy has a new work opportunity,” says Luch Monte, “and whilst Jeff (Grubisa) and I are disappointed it means we can’t do what we do together anymore with the race team we are really happy for him personally you know. It’s important that he takes this new step for himself and his family. Our door, and the Monte Motorsport trailer door will always be open for him.”

Monte and Buswell.
Buswell and Monte.

It’s been impossible to separate the pair as they raced at the top of Australian Sprintcar competition.

“Buzzy has been the mainstay of our team,” says Monte, “I literally haven’t done a thing. He’s driven the truck, set up the schedule, dealt with the sponsors, set up the race-car, maintained the race-car, planned and maintained our program, he’s even filled the esky. He’s done it all. I haven’t had to lift a finger. He’s been a huge part of our success and our reputation on the road. We couldn’t have done it without him.”

Monte is quick to add that there is no ill-feeling between the two friends.

“At the end of the day we’re mates more than anything,” Luch explains, “I wish him well with his new life and while I won’t say I’m not disappointed I will say that he’s always got a job here and a cold drink in the esky.”

What this means for the future of Monte Motorsport is unclear.

“I really don’t know what we’re doing right now,” says Luch, “we’ll do a stocktake, get everything washed up after this weekend and look at our options I guess. I’m not sure if this is the end or if we’ll look at continuing in 2022/2023. There’s a lot to think about.”

Whether the big W17 rig rolls out of the race-shop later this year or not, the contribution to Aussie Sprintcar racing and Monte Motorsport in particular that “Buzzy” has made is enormous.
He’s been an outspoken, colourful, hilarious and pivotal part of the Aussie speedway industry.

“All I can do is wish him well. I’m so grateful for all he’s done for Jeff and I and our race team. Without him there wouldn’t have been Monte Motorsport in its current form. He’s been the difference. We can’t thank him enough.”

Terrible news after waiting so long but the weather gods must be planning for a very special ,sunny day for March 12.On the other hand I am relieved since I was unable to go due to a stay in hospital .They say good things come to those who wait and boy are we waiting!

GRAND OPENING POSTPONED TO SATURDAY MARCH 12

With continued rain today and a 95% chance of 33ml rain tomorrow, it is with regret we have to postpone our Grand Opening to Saturday March 12.

Unfortunately we are unable to move the event to March 5, as the V8 Super Cars are running at Sydney Motorsport Park and the precinct parking would be stretched beyond capacity if we also hosted a major event. Hence, we have no choice but to cancel our March 5 event.

For patrons that have already purchased tickets, you will receive an email later today advising of an event date change and tickets will be automatically transferred to the new date of March 12. If you can’t attend the new date, please email us with your confirmation number and we can organise a refund for you.

At this stage the new date will feature Sprintcars and Super Sedans and the Lightning Sprints Gold Cup. Prices and times will remain the same.

We would like to thank everyone for their continued support and hopefully Mother Nature is kinder to us in two weeks time. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to seeing you at Sydney’s new home of Speedway – Eastern Creek!

Bu**er me ! Dennis Newlyn reports

Eastern Creek Speedway announcement:
JANUARY 14/15 EVENT CANCELLED
Despite the best efforts of Sydney Metro, NSW Office of Sport, Greater Sydney Parklands and the contractor Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure to remain on track for the completion of the new Eastern Creek Speedway and January 14 opening, the latest wave of COVID 19 in NSW has impacted on the construction schedule.
As a result, the January 14-15 weekend has been postponed and the opening is now scheduled for February 26.
This date has been selected in order to align with the interstate speedway calendar and already scheduled competitions. It also allows some time to ensure resourcing capacities can be met for construction requirements and any COVID risk management assessments.
"This is disappointing news to us as it will be to many of you, however we want to ensure that the opening of the Eastern Creek Speedway offers a spectator and competitor experience that delivers on the calibre of the newly constructed track and facilities. You can be assured the wait will be worth it," a media statement issued this afternoon (Sunday) from ECS said.
"We look forward to offering you unforgettable events with the best racing at the best venue and we will continue to keep you updated with information on the progression of construction and timeline for opening.
"We thank the NSW Government for its help and support in these challenging times.
"All tickets pre-purchased for the event will be fully refunded, " the ECS press release concluded.

IMPRESSIVE NOMINATIONS BUILD FOR JANUARY 14 EASTERN CREEK SPEEDWAY OPENER

FORTY-EIGHT nominations have so far been received for the final of the Queensland/NSW States Series at the opening meeting of the world class Eastern Creek Speedway on Friday, January 14.
Nominations remain open until January 9 for what promises to be one of the most impressive Sprintcar line-ups seen in Sydney for many years.

The entry list is headed by California's World of Outlaws star Carson Macedo, driving for Dyson Motorsport, while Australian Champion Jamie Veal also has entered. Macedo comes to Eastern Creek after his best-ever season result on the Outlaws trail with a third placing in the final 2021 National Championship standings.

The nominations also include Matthew Dumesny fresh from his New Year maiden win in the prestigious Victorian Sprintcar Championship at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool.

Another Australian Champion Robbie Farr also will race at the much anticipated Eastern Creek opening night and 2020 Australian title runner-up Marcus Dumesny has filed an entry. South Australia's third-placegetter in the 2018 Australian Sprintcar Championship Matt Egel is also set for the ECS opener.

Sydney's 2017 and 2014 Track Champion at Iowa's world famous Knoxville Raceway Ian Madsen is on the entry list along with another Knoxville seasoned campaigner from Sydney, Lynton Jeffrey.

The first Sprintcar show is high on expectation with such an extremely talented field and the nominations are certain to further increase in coming days.

“It sets the scene for what promises to be a great opening night at this wonderful new facility,” co-promoter John Kelly said today.
“We are not sure what numbers we will finish up with, so fans will see a superb return to Sprintcar racing in Sydney after such a long absence,” he added.

It's now almost two years since a Sprintcar main event was held in Sydney at the former Valvoline Raceway.
Local fans have been starved of action for so long but the waiting will soon be over!

Former Sydney Track Champion Troy Little is included in a big Sydney and interstate contingent already confirmed starters. Alex Attard, Jessie Attard, Mark Attard, Luke Geering, Grant Tunks, Anthony Orr, Braydan Willmington, Blake Skipper, Warren Ferguson, Michael Saller, Michael Matchett, Luke Thomas, Jackson Delamont – to name only some of the entrants – are set for action.

A wealth of Queensland talent are also ready to turn a wheel, bringing to Sydney current Queensland Champion Lachlan McHugh, Aaron Kelly, Adam Butler, Karl Hoffmans and Mick Rowell amongst other interstate entries.

Stay tuned for further nomination updates in coming days in the countdown to the grand opening on January 14.

Advanced ticket purchase can be made on the Eastern Creek website - www.easterncreekspeedway.com.au/events.htm
