Hey y'all, i have exciting news

Richard is releasing the Time Tunnel as a podcast! Keep an ear out for it

And thanks for all the lovely messages on my last post, sorry i haven't replied to them all yet

Have a wonderful weekend

17/01/2023

Make sure you follow Richard Raydeeoh for TT details each week

17/01/2023

Good afternoon. I have some great news:

The Time Tunnel is going to continue!!

Richard will become a regular part of "Editor's Choice with James O'Brien" every Saturday

It’ll be on about one hour earlier than it was: 1:45pm AEDT

Starting THIS SATURDAY

I'm so pleased that Richard will be able to keep telling wonderful music stories (how many of you instantly thought of a TT when you heard the sad news about Reynee Geyer?), and you'll get to hear them in a time slot very close to where they have always been

Don't forget to check the JNC page for links to the playlists I have made for you

Hope y'all well, have a great week

Glynn

Haha thanks so much to Phil Cooney for this farewell poem. Phil used to listen to me back when i was broadcasting in the wee small hours, and would often text in poems about the day's weather at 4am!

Howdy Glynn & the JNC folk
This is a poem, ain't no joke
It's been a while since I called or wrote
Twas a Christmas ditty that got your vote
Things change, life moves ahead
I don't get to listen, so follow your page instead
Time escapes me, there's never enough
Taken by family, work & other stuff
Listening to Glynn was a favourite filler
Especially when the nightshift was a killer
With his 'sus' timestamp, "past the hour"
Chats, time tunnels and music sweet and sour
And now you're telling us it's all but done
No more Glynn, music or fun
Even though I haven't listened much of late
Knowing it's finished is something I'll hate
I'm sure you'll excel in your next adventure phase
And we'll all look for another DJ to fill our airwaves
So it's goodbye from me and it's goodbye to him
The ever so entertaining Greensmith,
Glynn.

Great news, you can get access to lots of awesome Time Tunnels - from the incomparable Richard Dinnen - here. Who knows, he may even make some new ones!

Thanks again Richard, the TT was part of the show from the very start, and what a musical journey we got to go on

So here it is, the last hurrah. Listen back to the stories i picked to replay, along with the awesome new TT from Richard:

The Real Winnie The Pooh – the real bear that inspired the legend, the vet who saved it, the war it went to – it’s a tale as incredible as anything Winnie the Pooh ever went though!

Time Tunnel – Richard Dinnen ends the TT run with the story of songs about the radio

Larry Gelbart – the comedy legend and creator of MASH and Tootsie passed away in 2009, but I was lucky enough to chat to him just a few months before. Warm and hilarious and utterly charming, I’ll play it for you today.

Mowgli – Bruce Reitherman was the voice of the boy raised by wolves in the 1967 Disney classic, Jungle Book. He’ll join me to discuss its enduring appeal.

Here's the playlist, hope you heard some songs you liked:

Angelique Kidjo – O Holy Night
Peppino Gagliardi – Che Vuole Questa Musica Starsera
Gordon Lightfoot – Early Morning Rain
The Sports – Who Listens To The Radio
Kitty Kallen – Little Things Mean A Lot
Gypsy Kings – A Mi Manera
Louis Armstrong – La Vie En Rose
Winterbourne – Sunrise
The Teskey Brothers – Hold Me
John Prine & Kurt Vile – How Lucky

Thanks again. Hope it's a very merry xmas and a very happy new year. I'll pop some new playlists and a link to Richard's website soon too.

I'm so glad you all enjoyed that interview with Stan the toothpick man - either again or for the first time. I dropped him an e-mail to see how they were going and got this, and wanted to share the good news that Suzi is going really well:

"Hi Glynn!

Suzi is doing great, thank you for asking. She had a second kidney transplant 3 years ago, and now she’s even better. We’re even packing up the exhibit and taking it to the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa next month. We hope you’re doing well and still have the passion for storytelling. Happy Holidays to you and your family!
—Stan & Suzi"

Friends, some news

My 6-month hiatus is going to last a little longer. The ABC has not re-commissioned the show, so it and i will be finishing up in a few weeks

Let me be clear - there is no rancour at the decision. My boss James O'Brien has always been fantastic and supportive and has allowed me to come do this thing i love every week for 11 years. Money is always tight, and with my absence i can see why they have decided to try something new

What i am is sad. I just love coming into the studio every week to chat to you and interview amazing guests and play some tunes. I will miss it, and hanging out with you, very much.

I'm not one for goodbyes, so i decided to go into the studio and record the next three shows straight away (partly as I'll be leaving the country next Sunday anyway for the work/holiday trip)

So the shows up to xmas eve are already done, and i've put some favourite interviews and songs in there. I'll announce it on air at the beginning of next week's show, I just wanted to let you know first

Thanks for all the messages and support every week. This show has been one of the great privileges and joys of my professional life

I'll add some more material here over the next few weeks, including some new playlists, and details of how you can get access to Time Tunnels etc

With gratitude,
Glynn x

On the show tomorrow, a man who has made 27 films, but never seen a movie in his life. Because he's been blind since he was 12 weeks old. Can't wait to hear this fascinating tale

Plus songs turning 20 in the Time Tunnel

See you tomorrow
