Thank you. It's a brilliant opportunity to get the vegan message heard at this big event.😀

Let's take veganism to the stage of SXSW Sydney 2024! 🎤😍🌱

We have an opportunity to propel veganism into the spotlight at this year's SXSW Sydney, but we can't do it without your support.

Vegan Australia is vying for a spot on the prestigious conference stage under the '2050' track, where speakers delve into the future landscape of our world. 👀

Our proposed session is titled 'The Fork in the Road of Animal Agriculture' and will be delivered by Vegan Australia CEO, Assoc. Prof. Heidi Nicholl.

This isn't just about dietary choices; it's about the fate of our planet, the welfare of animals, and the health of humanity. 🐾🌡🔥🌏Through evidence-based analysis, Heidi will illustrate the profound impact of our decisions on the trajectory of our world by 2050.

👉But here's the catch: the power lies in your hands. 🤲
SXSW has opened the floor to public vote, and amidst the sea of contenders, including industry giants, Vegan Australia needs every vote it can get.

It's a quick and simple process, taking less than 5 minutes of your time.
🗳Head over to the voting page (https://submission.sxswsydney.com/), create an account, click the drop down on the search box and put 'vegan' in the organisation box to find the talk and to cast your vote.

ADELAIDE

🌱🍎

Picture this: a lush, sun-drenched park, a gentle breeze rustling through the trees, and a spread of mouthwatering vegan delights that will make your heart skip a beat. Why go vegan, you ask? Well, besides the fact that you'll be saving cute animals one delicious meal at a time, you'll also be doing your part to combat climate change and promote a healthier planet for future generations. It's a win-win-win situation: great food, a fantastic atmosphere, and a chance to make a positive impact on our world.

Peace Begins on Your Plate at the Vegan Picnic, Adelaide's annual centerpiece celebration in the event calendar among Adelaideans, interstate, and international vegans, vegan-curious individuals, and food lovers alike. This one-day festival being held from 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday, December 10th, 2023, is a compact version of the award winning Vegan Festival Adelaide, often lovingly referred to as 'Vegan Christmas.' And the best part? It's only $2 to attend! All you need to bring is a rug and a hearty appetite. And maybe your dog!

With over 20,000 edible plants in the world, you might not find them all on the day, but rest assured, you'll have an abundance of delectable options to choose from. Animals may be off the menu, but that doesn't mean you'll miss out on culinary delights. The stellar food line-up includes renowned vendors like Staazi & Co (ranked in the top 10 vegan food trucks worldwide), dairy-free cheese, plant-based burgers from sponsors Lord of the Fries, gluten-free donuts from OMG! Donuts, and refreshing alcohol-free mocktails. Chocolates, ice-cream, dumplings - if it's made out of plants, chances are you'll find it among the 50+ vendors at the Vegan Picnic!

Meet us at the "Soy to the World" stage, where we have an electrifying lineup of performers to keep you entertained throughout the event. We are thrilled to present legendary guitar player and devoted animal lover, Cal Williams Jr, whose melodic tunes will serenade your senses. Joining us on stage are the immensely talented musicians of The Domain, ensuring that your day is filled with soulful music and unforgettable performances.. But that's not all! In addition to the fantastic entertainment, Vegan Picnic has a series of engaging and insightful short talks in store for you. We've gathered some incredible influencers to share their stories and knowledge from vegan fast food founders, to ocean warriors and animal rights activists. There will be activities for the kids and the chance to chill with friends under the trees.

2023 sees our first ever Patron: Jason ‘Dizzy’ Gillespie.

The incredible Jason Gillespie is the face of our Vegan Festival in Adelaide! This cricket legend and devoted vegan isn't just a patron; he's our enthusiastic advocate, championing the cause with his name, support, and passion. From gracing our events over the years to proudly endorsing the festival, Gillespie brings star power and genuine commitment, elevating awareness and support for a cause that connects athleticism, environmental care, and compassion for animals. It's not just an endorsement; it's a dynamic celebration of values and advocacy! 🌱🏏

Get ready to satisfy your taste buds, help save the planet, finish off your Christmas shopping and catch up with friends.

So, grab your picnic blankets, sunscreen, and your sense of adventure, and let's veg out together! Whether you're a seasoned vegan or just curious to explore the world of plant-based delights, the Vegan Picnic is the place to be.

Don't miss out on the fun – mark your calendars now, and we'll see you at the Vegan Picnic on Sunday 10 December at Rundle Park/Kadlitpina, Adelaide. Get ready to eat, laugh, and make a world of difference, because peace really does begin on your plate.

Check it out and spread the word! 🍎🌱🙏

We need your help 🙏

We've recently hit an amazing milestone with 50% of tickets sold, and we're beyond grateful for your support! Every ticket purchase has meant the world to us. 💚

Running an event like this comes with significant financial challenges, and right now, we're facing huge personal losses.

If you're planning to join us at the event, we need your help to secure your tickets ASAP and to spread the word to all your friends and family.

If you can't make it but still want to support the event, please keep spreading the word about our festival. Every little bit counts! 🙌

We're a small, passionate team and we’ve poured our hearts and souls as well as our life’s savings into making this amazing festival into a reality. We’ve dedicated more than two and a half years of work in to this project while also balancing it out with our full-time working class jobs. As well as this, although we are in association with the UK event / team and parts of their team will be at the Australian event, we are completely financially independent from them and and we receive no financial support.

To add to this, several major sponsorship deals / grants dropped out unexpectedly last minute. For example, we were anticipating funding from the NSW event grants program, which only a month ago they regretfully informed us that they have cancelled the regional funding applicable to our event. These abrupt changes have left us facing a significant financial gap in our budget.

One of our primary goals have always been to keep the ticket prices as affordable as we possibly can while also providing an amazing festival experience for you all. We did this to ensure that as many people as possible could join the event. This has made Vegan Camp Out Australia one of, if not the cheapest camping festivals of its scale in Australia. If tickets sold out 100% - this would only cover our costs needed just run the event (our break even point without any income).

To give you an idea, some of the costs of running a festival includes: staging, audiovisual, big tents & marquees, lighting & electrical, toilets & showers, fencing, security, traffic control, cleaning, waste management, insurance, transportation/vehicle hire, medical, fire safety, venue costs, permit documentation, signage, marketing, and much, much more.

Don’t worry, this won't impact this year's event! We're committed to making it an amazing and unforgettable experience for you all and we're prepared to invest our life savings to make it happen. But if we can't reduce our losses this year, then we simply won’t be financially able to continue Vegan Camp Out Australia in the future. 😢

Our goal has always been to continue this festival for years, even decades to come and together, we can keep this festival alive and thriving which will benefit not only the local economy, all the vegan sanctuaries and businesses involved, the vegan community in Australia to build better and deeper connections but also and most importantly the animals. 🐷

🎫 Spread the word and get your tickets from vegancampout.com.au/tickets - weekend pass, day tickets, glamping, and a few bus tickets from Sydney still left.

We aim to support vegan businesses as much as possible and this is one of Australia's finest.

We hate to do this but we don’t have much of a choice at the moment… we have to close our store for more days during the week. As times are really tough right now, we can’t justify being open on quiet days so we’ll be closed on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to reduce our operating costs. We hope this means you’ll come shop at our Fitzroy store on Thursdays to Sundays and continue to purchase from our online store the rest of the week, utilising our click & collect option if you live locally.

We don’t want to further reduce our hours beyond this but we’ll have to see how we go in the coming weeks. Our current opening hours are listed below:

Monday - closed
Tuesday - closed
Wednesday - closed
Thursday- 11am until 5pm
Friday - 11am until 6pm
Saturday - 11am until 5pm
Sunday - 11am until 5pm

Thank you for your support & understanding - The VS team x

Cauliflower ice-cream! Read the full report below by Katrina Fox 🍎🌱🙌

😲 Ice cream made from cauliflower … honestly my first reaction was ‘Ewww!"

But Mrinali Kumar changed my mind.

“We want to be the vegan Ben & Jerry’s. And we want to be the most sustainable ice cream brand in the world,” she told me earlier this week when we met up at the Naturally Good Expo in Sydney.

🙌 I was instantly drawn to her story. I listened, intrigued, as she told me about the startup EatKinda that she and Jenni Matheson had created in New Zealand and her background as a food technologist.

✅ I was impressed at how the pair were using (whenever possible) “cosmetically imperfect” cauliflower that didn’t make it to supermarkets as it was too ugly and would otherwise be thrown away, and the plastic-free, home-compostable packaging.

🙂 I smiled at hearing how the brand came about – from Jenni’s vegan cheesecake ‘fail’ to discovering cauliflower’s superpower to make dairy-free ice cream ‘creamy’.

💖 I loved Mrinali’s energy, ambition and passion to make a positive impact in the world.

Over the past few years I’ve interviewed many investors in the , and space and almost all of them told me a key reason they invest is the people behind the brand.

Too many founders shy away from sharing themselves or their stories and experiences. But while your product may be delicious, your stories are even more irresistible.

Be the face of your brand. Tell us who you are and why you do what you do. Show us your passion, successes and even ‘failures’.

✨ Building a memorable, authentic personal brand can lead to so many opportunities including media coverage, speaking opportunities and partnerships. In a crowded market, your founder stories and your 'essence' is what will set you apart.

PS: No, you can’t taste the cauliflower, and no it’s not a ‘health’ food because ice cream is a decadent, indulgent treat (but hey, it’s dairy-free so you’re dodging infected pus and blood – woot! 😃)

Ethical leadership right here. 🙌🍎🌱

Ethical leadership right here. 🙌🍎🌱

Join us for Family Meal.

A FREE, nourishing, wholesome dinner every Friday night at 5:30pm. Open to everyone in the community. We won’t be serving you, we’ll cook and then sit and eat with you and we’ll have a chat and connect and then we’ll all help to clean up. Food will be vegan and gluten free, to cater for the most people. An early dinner so you can bring the kids or come after work.

Why?
Well, to be perfectly honest, I’m tired of how the world looks at the moment. It’s becoming increasingly difficult (on the soul) to run a business while understanding that this capitalist system is designed for everyone except a few billionaires to fail. All of us have more in common with each other than we do with those people that hoard wealth at the top of this unjust system. I’m tired and sad and I feel hopeless. I’m not satisfied with a bourgeois freedom. The kind of freedom where my comfort only exists because of someone else’s discomfort. None of us are free until we all are.

Why?
Food insecurity is a huge problem in this country, with 15% of Australians experiencing food insecurity at some point in the last 12 months. This isn’t just a problem that unemployed people experience either and the figure will only increase as the ‘cost of living’ increases.

Why?
Because it is utterly wild that a phrase like ‘cost of living’ is just thrown around as political rhetoric. Why should it cost anything to just live a life? Everyone deserves food, shelter, safety, community.

Why?
It will help us minimise our food waste. We’re planning on putting everyone who comes and joins us for Family Meal in a message group where we can alert you if we have leftovers after other services and functions too. We can’t fix these huge systemic problems right now, but we can use any of our excess produce to make big batches of nourishing, healthy, wholesome, plant based food and invite you to eat with us.

Why?
We want to create community, build relationships, start conversations and share stories. We want to sit and eat with you and not complain about the state of the world, instead talk about what a new, just world could look like.

A comprehensive article about the plant-based burger industry in Australia.

A key point in the article is the fact that both plant-based burgers and animal-derived burgers are both processed, the former being better for health. 🌱🍎

(The title is click bait, the actual article has more substance).

A new generation of plant-based meat alternatives is flooding into Australia's shops, supermarkets and takeaway joints. But do they have what it takes to lure meat lovers away from meat?
