A special event at the running of the 2025 Postle Gift at Club Pittsworth on Saturday 18th January was the John 'Cracker' McDonald AM Memorial Open Footrace over 300 metres, honouring the Region's champion runner, footballer and rugby league administrator.

The photo depicts members of the McDonald family, Lady Mayoress Lisa, Mrs Joan McDonald and Mayor Geoff McDonald with the winner of the race, 🏆Anas Abu-Ganaba (winner of the 2022 Arthur Postle Gift).

Joan McDonald was emotional as she recalled the days of her husband competing all over Australia in his professional running career.“Johnny was an amazing athlete, a world record holder for the 440 yards. Having this series in his honour means a lot to me and the family,” she said.

The events were run under the auspices of the Queensland Athletic League. Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who are the secret sauce to the events success:
Lisa, Jim McDonald MP, Ellie, Jess, Maree, Club Pittsworth, PCYC Toowoomba, Bayer, Queensland Cotton, IGA Pittsworth, Toowoomba Region, Sedl Agencies, Cracker Print and Paper, Cooks Soft Drinks, Pittsworth Sentinel, Pittsworth District Alliance, Local FM Pittsworth, Sunny The Egg, and Wagners.

🌊 As the rain continues to fall it’s a timely reminder of the “inland tsunami” 14 years ago.

⛈️ We also recall the 1976 hail storm that devastated much of Toowoomba 49 years ago, also to the day!

🌊 We could never have imagined on the afternoon of the 10th January 2011, that a region 700 metres above sea level would ever see the unstoppable ferocity and sheer unpredictability of nature that we experienced.

History shows there have been other floods through the city, however and thankfully, nothing quite on this scale in recent times.

💧 With rain continuing to fall we all should be reminded …. “if it’s flooded forget!”
