OUT TODAY - HEXHAM HEADS DEBUT EP

"My new favorite band."
Crispian Winsor, Radio City, PBS Melbourne 106.7fm

Melbourne's Hexham Heads offer a fresh take on a classic power pop sound, delivered with heart and soul in all its ragged glory, a heady brew of jangle, fuzz, harmonies and guitar-monies!

Having bonded over a love of loud guitars and hooky pop melodies, Melbourne music stalwarts Van Walker (Swedish Magazines/Livingstone Daisies) & Mic Hubbard (Ella Hooper/Spencer P. Jones) began making demos in the winter of 2024, soon enlisting the talents of friends Brett ‘Wolfie’ Wolfenden (The Pictures/The Casanovas/Wolfmother) on drums and George Carroll Wilson (Pollyman/Bones and Jones) on bass guitar to join in the proceedings, and in one short, action-packed session recorded the four tracks that make up their debut, self-titled EP.

A small but spicy taste of things to come, the EP a testament to the love of garage rock and power pop, enlivened with soulful powerful performances, successfully marrying the jangle of a 12 string with the snarl of a Marshall amplifier. It’s hooks-a-plenty, guitars galore, and an homage to loud, sweaty fun.

"An infectious...stunning recipe of soaring harmonies, exquisite melody and guitar slinging that will have you playing this track over and over and over - it's that good!! Irresistible!! Love this work!!"
⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Radio Carrum

A mere four songs, but for a debut release this EP is a wild ride of myriad musical colours that promise much more to come from a band who defy easy categorisation but offer straight up soul music without pretence.

"The art of songwriting for me has always been an attempt to cut to the heart of the matter, much like sculpture, carving away the unnecessary. The hardest thing is to be simple. And even harder is to be happy. But the world needs more joy and harmony. I hope Hexham Heads is a group that gets people singing together, if nothing else." Van Walker

OUT TODAY!

Aotearoa/New Zealand-born and Australia-based Skyscraper Stan and his longtime touring band and collaborators, the Commission Flats, have generated a body of work that has attracted a loyal, and more recently, global fanbase drawn to Stan’s easy lyrical style, inventive arrangements, and deft genre twists and turns— from folk and country to indie rock and consummate soul— all key elements across the diverse new album.

Get your copy on limited edition clear 12" vinyl (100 only), black 12" vinyl, CD or digitally.

Written through the pandemic, and between the cities of Ballarat and Naarm (Melbourne), Stan found himself reminiscing a lot about places, people, and the state of the world as he put pen to paper. The song 'Those Were Days', that gives the album its name, is a lament for the lost hedonism of one's early 20s living in share houses in Fitzroy and Collingwood, and as such, it ties in perfectly with the general nostalgic feel of much of the album.

A true group effort, the album has been a collaborative labour of love between Stan and the Commission Flats. "We did the whole thing in-house. We arranged the songs together, we produced it ourselves and our drummer Andy mixed it," says Stan. "It has been a long process, but certainly the most enjoyable music making experience of my career so far."

This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Music Australia.

Awesome review by Gerry Ransom from Vive Le Rock for Hard-Ons - Official album ‘I Like You A Lot Getting Older’.
“The band had always had a pure-pop hankering beneath their skatepunk hide and meaty riffs, but Rogers’ sense of melody and a sugary vocal hook bring these songs out of the sweaty punk club and drop them like an acid tab into the fizzy froth of pop radio”

When he’s not driving the backbeat or serving six string duties for some of Melbourne’s best alt-country ensembles, drummer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Patrick Wilson is busy crafting his own brand of authentic country rock ‘n’ roll.

Following up his debut long-playing release ‘It'll Be Alright’, his latest single ‘Fool Moon’ features a duet with award winning country/Americana superstar Ella Hooper.

The song was recorded and produced by Patrick Wilson in early 2023 as a demo but ultimately became the master track. The song centres around two lovers at a time of conflict, not knowing the outcome of their future or whether forgiveness can prevail. The fork in the road is apparent and these ‘star-crossed’ lovers must decide to fight to be with someone they've hurt or forgive the one that hurt them.

"The wunderkind himself, Patrick Wilson, asked me to sing on this track, and after listening it was very much a no brainer. It’s a lilting sweet n salty tune with dare I say a slightly Caribbean feel (?!) with one THE BEST ouchie-heart-sting’y lines I’ve heard in a while in it (in the chorus)." Ella Hooper

Fresh from a tour of the country music heartland, Tamworth, Wilson presents a heart wrenching tune that is beautifully and melodically delivered by himself and Hooper.

Catch Patrick live tonight at Moondog and/or Thursday 6 March at Brunswick Ballroom with Skyscraper Stan, Liam Wright and Ruby Jones.

Art School dropout, seminal punk rocker, and living legend. Born into the isolation of the semi industrial wastelands of 1950s outer suburban Perth, Kim Salmon clawed his way out of the swamp and onto the world stage in his bands, the Scientists, the
Surrealists, and the Beasts of Bourbon.

Smoked Salmon is a concept, a collection of recordings, a collective, a philosophy of least resistance flowing from a reputation for resolutely going against the stream! Wait a minute! Least resistance? Against the stream? Here’s the clincher. You can do both! Kim still has the desire to go upstream but has found a great source of new repertoire fishing in the streams from whence such classics as "Frantic Romantic", "Last Night", "Dropout", "Come On Spring" and "Swampland" sprang!

With Smoked Salmon, Kim has a new album of material that sits seamlessly alongside ‘the old stuff you love’ (from The Scientists, Beasts Of Bourbon, Surrealists and Antenna), all lovingly assembled and performed by an international cast.

Dimi Dero; Delphine Ciampi; Sylvain Philipon; Todd Pickett; Jozeph Grech; Claire Birchall; Douglas Galbraith; Myles Mumford; Finn Keane; Sam Worrad; Jeffery Bakerand Jeff Ho**er all come together to create an episode in the musical adventure of Kim Salmon’s life. An episode that you miss at your own peril!

Brand new single and video 'Hey Hey Narcissus' is out today and is available digitally alongside pre-orders for the self-titled debut album for Smoked Salmon. It will be available on 28 February 2025 on limited edition gold 12" vinyl (100 only), black 12" vinyl and digitally. Pre-order your copy now.

23/01/2025

Australia’s globally renowned, effervescent perfect pop rock outfit Rudely Interrupted have overcome some well-documented challenges in their 16-year existence. However, the gestation of their prophetically titled 3rd album Emergency which is out today through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, delivered a challenge they hadn’t seen coming.
In 2018, Rudely’s founding member and co-writer Rohan Brooks was struck down with a serious brain aneurysm that left him in hospital for a year and with severe memory loss as a result. Add to that the apart time and its fallout we all endured, and the continuing climate catastrophe we are all currently facing, that finds Brooks understating on the album’s title, “yeah we’re all in a little trouble I guess!”
Brooks along with co-writer Rory Burnside came together at a disability music program that the former was running in 2006. Joined by fellow core member Sam Beke and various musicians passing through the line-up, Rudely Interrupted have delivered 3 albums and 4 EP’s that have taken them to 10 different countries 14 times and all over Australia.
Beyond being just a songwriting vehicle for Burnside and Brooks, Rudely Interrupted has become somewhat of a trailblazer in the differently abled arts space, creating awareness and opening doors for other acts in their community to embrace their uniqueness. “We’re in it for the life experience so it’s less about the ego and more about the music for us”, Brooks clarifies.
Now the album is out there in the world, Brooks suggests there is still much for Rudely Interrupted to achieve, “we do eventually want to start a school of rock type thing and find and help others who want to have music in their life but don’t have the opportunities to engage. We know there's some talented, interesting folk out there who would love to gain the experience and opportunity to play in a band. I think having a place for these folks to express and collaborate with others is important for a healthy society to reflect on itself”

'Emergency' is out today on CD and digitally.
